So I spent far too many hours researching NOS tubes for my Maz Sr. My goal is to fatten up the sound a bit. Maybe reduce the highs and get a more warm sound. I read about 100 posts online, plus lots of posts here and an awesome PDF comparing EL84s.
What I came up with was this:
NOS JAN Philips/Sylvania 5AR4 (mislabeled 5V4GA) NOS JAN Philips 5751 x2 NOS GE EL84/6BQ5 (quad)
Each of these on their own aren't bad, but when I finally looked at my cart it totals at $356 before shipping. Yowsa.
I have no problem spending the money if it's worth it. So - do you think it'll be worth it? I currently have all Groove Tubes in there now.

Also would the money be better spent putting in different speakers?
I'm going to try the JSX speakers in my Maz to see if it does what I want to the tone.

The mislabeled JAN 5V4GA didn't sound as good as the original JJ in my MAZ Jr to my ears. Of course, this is a sample of one and other people report significant improvements. YMMV.

GAD Probably speakers are a better investment. I love NOS tubes but you can change the tone far more dramatically with speakers. What do you have now?

well, a few years ago i bought some expensive nos tubes, mainly 6v6s,6L6s and el34s, a few rectifiers,, i always thought the nos el84s were overpriced,, what i have learned over the years is, i will stick to matched and burned in modern tubes from reputable dealers,,
