Has anyone ever swapped out the Z10's in their combo for a pair of 10" Weber Alnico Blue Pups?

No, but I've ran my Z28 head into another 2x10 with a Blue Pup and a Silver Bell and it was no contest. The Z 10's had more of everything. In all fairness the Webers probably need a lot more break-in time. Still, it's REALLY hard to beat a Z 10"

I agree, the Z 10's really do have some magic going on. I swapped my Z 10's (convertible extension cab) for Weber Blue Pups. The Blue Pups didn't sound bad at all, and dropped the weight of the cab considerably, but I lost that Z magic.

Someone else did, because I bought their take-outs and made a 2-10 extension cab for my 2-10 combo. It's almost like have a 4-10 that I can carry! I also have used the 2-10 extension cab under my Peavey Delta Blues 1-15 amp. That combo sounds great! Makes me wonder how a 1-15 cab would sound in tandem with my 2-10 combo Z-28? Maybe I need to get out the wire and harness that up.

Well I spent some more time crankin' up the Z28 with the Z10's & I think I'll stick with em'! It looks like with the Airbrake I can get the breakup I'm looking for w/o switching to a less efficient speaker. I guess I need to spend some more time dialing in this amp. I think I'm used to my Ghia/Blue combo which gets dirty real quick.

try some real NOS celestion vintage 10's not the ones on the market now, the older ones. I am not a big celestion fan, but I use these in my vibrolux reverb and they sound great. If you can find some.
