Hi all, for those who have seen my post in the general forum, I have decided to buy a Maz 38 Sr. I have made some desicions... I'm definitely getting a combo and I'm 99% sure I want reverb (unless you guys talk me into the Super Z ) I either want 2x12, 1x12 or maybe possibly the 3x10 Super Z. Can you guys please help me decide. The most expensive option is 2 grand which I'm willing to spend so the price isn't a factor. Thanks in advance Jay

get the head...it will leave you with more cab options down the road and is way easier to lug around.
The jenkins hwy 61 is a nice cab with a convertable back....so open or closed back is an option.
loaded with some nice webers...you'll be good to go.

Nathan is correct and offers good advice. Z's cabs are all excellent also but are more pricey. Personally I like matched gear but that's just me. I'm a huge fan of Z's 2x10 cab.

as a side....
my jenkins was done in the same S&P cosmetics as my Z stuff...don't know if it's on his website, but i think you can order it....looks vox-ish....like the Z combos and ray cabs.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. A few hours ago I actually decided to order the 2x12 reverb combo with Celestion V30's. I know it will be a heavy beast but it's the exact amp a friend of mine has so I know how it sounds already. I just couldn't take agonizing over the decision anymore so I went for it! From what I've been hearing, it would have been tough to make a bad choice anyway.
I can't wait to get the big, red sucka!

congrats on taking the plunge.....
you're right..it's hard to make that amp sound bad. If you know you like the v30's with that amp, by all means, but myself, personally that was my least favorite speaker I tried with my 38 NR.

Avatar makes some great cabs as well - very sturdy, multi-ply birch, very resonant.
Speakers for a 212: V30+G12H30 - same setup as the Z-Best. Has a great full range. Tight bass and aggressive top end.
Weber Silver+Blue (50 watt) - Alnico is amazing. Amp really gets a vox meets Z vibe. Nice compression, chimey top end and soft low. Very smooth when hit w/OD/Dist.
Weber Silver+Blue (50 watt) - Ceramic is great. Amp balances between the American/British tones. Smooth but aggressive top end attack, tight bass and nice mid range.
Weber Blue Alnico+Silver Ceramic - Combo of the smooth/compression with the tight bass and upper attack.
Weber Blue Alnico+G12H30 - Another nice pairing - combo of smooth/compression w/tight bass and upper attack. G12H30 are sometimes noted as having a bite in the upper end.

I took the advice of getting the just the head and then later decided to get the Z-best. It was a great choice. IMO, I think the Z-Best is voiced perfectly for the Maz. It has the G12H30 and a Vintage 30.
But... I did miss having a grab and cary combo amp.... So that was a good excuse to go back to the store buy a 1x12 Carmen Ghia Combo :-)
I'm too afraid to start experimenting with speakers. Although, I would like to hear a Tonker/Swamp combo. I think if I get to that stage (which is tempting), I'm going to become more of a compulsive audiofile than a guitarist.
So, I pretty much rely on Dr. Z's choice of speaker.
