I have this crackling sound coming from the speaker in the my Stangray combo. First I thought maybe the preamp tube but if I tap on it it doesn't seem to be coming from there. I thought maybe the speaker wire connections but I moved it around some and doesn't seem to make much difference either. It doesn't do it all the time but seems to be doing it more and more. Sounds like when you have a bad guitar cable is the best way to describe it. I will try any input you guys have but if it doesn't fix it is there an authorized Z repair place in central Maryland. It is only about 5 weeks old. Thanks.

Make sure the chassis bolts are good and tight. They will get loose which causes the chassis to lose contact with the metal shield mounted in the cabinet, which causes a crackling sound.

Thanks bentop. I tried that, turned it on, it was quiet for about 60 seconds, the crackling (sounds like static actually) came back a little for about 5 seconds, then went away. I had it wide open too. I will see what happens next time we play.

Well keep in mind that for any given symptom, there are usually at least two possible sources, if not several, and of those, the majority tend to be tube related issues. It could be a bad tube, but it could also be a bad connection in a tube socket. It might also be any number of lesser issues, so you may still have some work to do. Hope not, though. It seems to me that the chassis bolts are the most common issue here when this type of complaint pops up.
