It'll be significantly quieter, have more (and earlier) breakup in the midrange, a looser bottom end, and an overall more "woody" midrange. In short, should be a REALLY cool contrast to your Z-Best for different sounds/applications with your Ghia! Let us know how you like it!

Nick - Z suggested to me several times that I try a Greenback in my 1x12 as a way to lower the volume for small venues. Try as I may, I can't get behind the Greenback. As stated, the bottom is loose....real loose, IMO. To my ears, a Greenback sounds good only when it's played loud...thereby negating my reason for using one. This is kind of weird, but I've had better luck with the Mojo "M" copy. On the other hand, your new setup will be better than the ZBest for a small venue. Again, IMHO.
FWIW, in the Celestion camp, I keep gravitating toward the "H". A Blue is nice with the Ghia, but that is a loud speaker.

Just been trying out an Eminence Red Fang (much like a Greenback) and a Weber AlNiCo Blue Dog with my Ghia in a Thiele ported 1x12 using my Reverend Slingshot Custom. Absolutely, no contest! The Red Fang sounded loose at the low-end, flat in the mids and (to my surprise) unfocused in the highs. The Weber was much fuller and more complex sounding across the whole spectrum and gave this great "milk-shake" tone overdrive - really thick but still detailed.
Of course, the Weber costs twice as much as the Eminence but I was expecting more from the Red Fang based on my very positive experience with the Emi Wizard.

Guys, You remember on another thread I was talking about a guy who makes custom 8" speakers?
I went to his shop yesterday and played thru a 4 x 8" cab...it was amazing..I had that Ghia cranked and it smoked my greenback 1 x 12"....the sound was "alive" and not muddy and it didn't fart or have any issues at all...
The workmanship was great...I was impressed...
I'm going to get one after the holidays...the size and dimensions are modeled after an early marshall cab..I'll post pics when I get it..

Small speakers have a snap that bigger speakers don't. I'd really like to see a picture of this cab. Evans amps, and probably other jazz amps, have used 8"s for quite a while. I remember plugging an electric guitar into a Fender Acoustic amp with two 8" and being quite impressed with the clean volume it put out. I'm sure four 8's could carry a gig with a closed back cab..

That doesn't sound like the way Z treats anybody (not returning phone calls), much less his dealers. I'd be weary of the dealer... What was the projected lead time on your cab? You could always e-mail Z as well.

Hey nickthestick, what state is this dealer in? I'm about to order a lot of Z gear tommorrow and I live in NY. If there's a chance I'm going to go thru the same dealer, and your having problems with them, maybe I should stear clear of them. Good Luck man.

It's cool man, I ordered a bunch of stuff on Tuesday and was told the wait would be 4-6 weeks. Something's not right if you've been waiting for 4 months. Good luck and keep us all posted.

I waited a long time to make that order brother. Lot's of research, traveled all over NY and Conn playing different Z's. Man, it was a hell of a lot of fun.

I installed a GB in my 1x12 Ghia last night replacing a V30. Didn't have much chance to play it,, but initial 5 minute reaction was that it wasn't a lot quieter (just a little), definately broke up a bit sooner in a good way, very Marshally sounding, had slightly less bottom than the V30, had considerably more chime in the highs than the V30, a midrangey speaker in a pleasing way, suspect it will be good in a band setting which is what I need. I can post mroe later if you like...

ok so i pick up the cab today from the dealer, and instead of a greenback, there is a V30 in it...i was really annoyed considering i waited sooo long for it, but i decided to give it a shot anyway......well....i really dig it....it kinda does what i was expecting the GB to do, and it is way way softer than my z best.....plust the open back gives the sound a more 3D effect.....the doc makes great cabs, and this is no exception...worth the wait, and worth the mistake......later - gotta go jam
