I was experimenting with EF 86's last night in my Route 66 and decided to try a new JJ EF 806S I recently bought from an established on line guitar store. The JJ lasted about 1 minute before it just went dead.......poof. I know it was the JJ EF 806S because as soon as I put my NOS Mullard EF-86 back in V1, the Route 66 was singin' it's song again without skippin' a beat.
The JJ EF806S has got to be the worst tube I have ever purchased for $28.00. Maybe I just got unlucky, but you can bet your bottom dollar that next time I will either: (1) buy quality tested NOS; or (2) buy new tubes that a tested and sold by a reliable tube vendor. I doubt I can get my money back since it has been over 30 days, but I might give it a try. Caveat Emptor.

Not sure who you bought it from, and I haven't heard much re the JJ's offerings re that particular tube, but Bob at Eurotubes is a class act as far as customer service. I buy any JJ tubes from him, and just like Mike at KCA, they are delivered in a matter of 2 to 3 days so it is worth the wait - unless you're dead in the water without that specific tube. It's always good to have backups anyway or just for tone shaping. Just my experience with him and my 2 cents. Hopefully it wasn't Torres Eng.

A good vendor will replace the tube based on your story here or at least the vendors I work with would.
