Hello from the Great White North and now the proud owner of a black Dr Z Z28 amp head. Here's my story: I decided after owning so many good amps it was time to try something new and different. I wanted that classic Fender sound with more punch and midrange. Some of the Fender amps that sounded amazing were actually more expensive than the Dr Z amp so at only $1200 I believe the DrZ amp was a steal. This amp has a Fenderish sound but it also has a tone of its' own. I A/B'd this amp with every decent amp in the store and kept coming back to the Z28, even the Bad Cat which sounded great left me wanting to the Dr Z amp. I paired the head with my 1-12" closed back extension cab equipped with a hemp cone speaker with excellent results. My Strats seem to be the perfect match with this amp. I couldn't be happier with an amp, so simple yet so perfect. A friend has a couple of Dr.Z amps and told me about this website. I look forward to reading some good info on this website and contributing where I can. Thanx everyone.

Welcome stratgt I've got Amalfitano strat pu's in the neck and middle positions of my tele so I guess I can comment- the Z28 loves strat neck pu tones. But then it sounds great with anything I've put through it. Also worth trying is multiple speaker setups. Here's to many hours of fun and discovery Brett

Hello back atcha from the Virgin Islands, stratgt!
You'll keep finding more and more tones from the Z-28. My comment on them is: Three knobs, One hundred tones!
Changing tubes, speakers and cabs make these amps sound very different, but they're all good sounds. You should lay in a set of spare tubes, but read up on all the tube threads here before you pick some. They, too are big tone-changers.
These amps readily adapt to Strat-type guitars, but with searching and tweaking, humbucker guitars also sing.
Enjoy your new toy, and have a great holiday season!

Welcome stratgt I've had my Z-28 2x10 combo for five years now. I play it with a ES 135. They were made for each other.
Cheers, Richard

Welcome aboard. The Z28 is simply a great amp. I love mine with a greenback 112. I have been using that in a closed back cab which I must say suprised me. The Celestion blue sounds great as well. Good luck and congratulations on your new amp.

Use mine with a greenback too, sometimes an Emi RWB if outdoors. Killer amp, enjoy!

Hi, I'm a new Z28 owner too (Don't have it yet, waiting for shipment). Should I be worried about how my ES 335 is going to sound? Sounds like a lot of comments favor single coils? Does anyone know who makes speakers for Dr. Z? I bought 2-10 version. Thanks, Jack

Dr. Z makes his own 10" speakers; basket from one place magnet another, and cones another. Whatever, they're great! I have four of them.
