Hi all! I have an '08 MAZ Jr NR head in red tolex that I purchased new. This summer I bought ruger9's RXJr head (I think it was #8) also in red tolex. The two seem shaded differently. Were there different lots/batches of red tolex used on Z's amps? The older RXJr almost seems somewhat faded. What do you guys use to restore luster/shine on your tolex? Would a product like Armour-All work? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions you might have! Rich(fbb90)

The RxJr isn't very old at all. So I'd assume the colors SHOULD BE REALLY close. I have a bunch of red Dr. Z Amps and Cabs in tolex and Nubtex from old to new and they are all VERY VERY CLOSE in color.
First off I'd just wipe it down with a damp rag and see if that helps. I never liked the feel of em after those shiners, but that's me.

Paul, Thanks for the reply. I tried that right after I got it. No good. That's why I was asking about a "product" that someone may have had some success w/ in shining/restoring/protecting their tolex. Like I said, it almost looks faded out or something. It's much duller then the MAZ Jr I bought new. Any suggestions? Help please...

Do you think there is the possibility that it's a fade issue from alot of sun? Don't know the circumstances but vibrant colors tend to dull a bit with lots of sun.

I doubt that it's sun fade. It's a consistent color even on the bottom. I don't know though as I bought it used. It's not bad, it's just very different from my MAZ Jr that I bought new.
Any suggestions for some kind of "shine" product?

I'd try some vinyl cleaner like they use on car seats. Yeah, or Armor-All but I never liked the feel or smell of that stuff personally. Do the underneath first and see what happens before you go to town.

My wife knits from time to time. When she goes to get more yarn, even in the same color, she has to look for a dye lot number because from job to job, the dye in the yarn comes out slightly different. You can't really see it when you're there at the store, but if you put two skeins of yarn with different dye lots into one blanket, you see it like night and day.
I'm thinking this is a dye lot issue more than anything else. From job to job there is bound to be some minor variation. I have a red head cab I got from Drew here that is slightly different from the head cab on my RX Jr. and on my Convertible cab. Same deal.

I tend to agree; die lot variation. this is an issue with any textile goods.

Thanks guys. I was wondering about color variation w/ different lots of Tolex. That may be a possibility in the difference between these two heads. I have a nice long weekend this week; I might give some type of vinyl cleaner/polisher a try. Anyone know of anything to avoid?
