Hey fella's I just recieved an SRZ and I am going to have it retubed. I figured that I would just go ahead and do all of the tubes and not just the power tubes or the recto tube. So I want a good tone but I want somthing that is available to me. My local shop carries RubyTubes and that is what I run in the rest of my amps. Has anyone tried them in an SRZ or have suggestions. My local shop stopped using Groove Tubes but I can get them under the Mesa Packaging if I go that route. No matter what at this time they have to order whatever I want.

Hello. I've never tried any of Ruby's EL34 offerings. But their 6L6GCM-STR sure is nice. I've used JJ 34s quite a bit, since they're so readily available. When I had my KT45, that came loaded with the EH 6CA7. That was a really nice tube. I've read where Myles tried a KT77 with great results, although I'd recommend sticking with the EL34/6CA7 until you get to know your new amp. I'd also HIGHLY recommend getting a good OLD GZ34 for your SRZ. I think the problem you had was due to the rectifier. And pretty much all of the new ones are undependable.
Good luck, Brad

The Ruby Tubes EL34BSTR is a terrific tube. I tested these a few years back, they traced great and have never dropped in quality. Very vintage tone, smooth.
As a side note, Mesa does not sell an EL34 that was a GT supplied EL34.

That's interesting on the Mesa/GrooveTubes thing. Have to inquire more at the shop, if I go that route. Thanks Myles and I think i'm going with the Rubys, but after I try this amp out with the Groove tubes. My Recto tube should be here on Friday. Thanks again guy's for the help.

The GT LS tubes will be more agressive. The GT EL34M is vintage in tone, and the Ruby EL34B-STR is a lot like the GT M but a little different, hard to describe... it all boils down to personal taste.
