Hey there,
Got a minty mint Z28 in a trade. Its blowing fuses regularly. I noticed something this morning, that when I turn it on, if I dont wait a minute or two before switching the standby on, it blows.
\Is this normal, or should I be looking at something else? There isnt any problems at all with the amp!

C'mon. Any help here. Blew a fuse again today. Then, new fuse, and an hour of bliss. Wild. I just dont want to have to put in a new fuse each time I power up.

Since you just got it, some tubes may have shifted in shipping, pull and re insert each tube.

Sounds like it's the power tubes. Have them replaced and biased properly and you should be back in business. It wouldn't be a bad idea to throw in a new balanced PI. It's not totally necessary but I would recommend it.

Will do. I saw that the V3 has a 12ax7 instead of the usual 5751. Will do an order and go from there.

mangoman, pretty sure its your rectifier tube. The only reason I don't suspect the Rec. is because the amp would work before blowing the fuse and then would do the same after replacing the fuse. A rectifier tube will either work or not work. There is no in between.

OK,
here's what I got.....Pulled all the tubes out, and then placed them back in their respective spots.
Still blowing fuse once I go from turning on power, it can sit all day, then when I switch from StandBy, it blows. However, I can immediately replace the fuse, turn both switches on, and play. Then yesterday, I just put the amp back into stand by mode, when I wasnt playing. COuld go back and play a couple times without incident. I havent turned her on today, but I suspect I will blow another fuse.
So, should I just go and order some new tubes?

The amp is probably underbiased and drawing too much current.
Check the bias and you will probably find it needs to be adjusted.

how easy is it to check and then rebias? I am fairly tech savvy, but just want to be sure before I undertake something!!

Most on here will recommend you use a bias meter as that is the safest way to bias.
