Before I go thru a bunch of trial and error and experimenting do you know if the Z28 is better with humbuckers (Les Paul and Duncan Antiquities) or the Maz 18? I know they are both very different amps, but I was wondering which has a sweeter overdrive and will suit the Les Paul better in a vintagy way. Thanks!!!

I don't have a Z28 but the Maz Jr sounds super sweet with humbuckers (Les Paul) although I think humbuckers would sound great with any Dr Z amp!

I have both amps, and both sound great with humbuckers. You can coax a variety of tones from both, so I wouldn't hesitiate to buy either one . . . or both!

I couldn't choose, so I got both. To be really honest, it's hard for me to say because my humbucker guitar is a G&L Bluesboy Semi-Hollow.....not exactly a Les Paul sound coming from it. Nevertheless, the Seth Lover neck pickup sounds unbelievable with both amps. If push came to shove though, I'd say the Maz 18 Jr might have an edge. To my ear, EL84 amps give me more humbucker friendly tones than a 6V6 amp does. Not to say you can't find awesome sounds out of it (search Eric Congdon's video clips on youtube). It's just my opinion that the Z28 is more of a single coil amp.
