I just received a two year old Maz 18. What tubes can I put in without having to worry about biasing, or any other finr tune. just plunk and play.
Rectifier? Power? Gain stage?
Names and models would be appreciated.

the web site lists the stock tubes. No need to bias. You can substitute lower gain tubes in the preamp if you like, but the maz runs pretty clean until you really push it. There is a sting in this section of the forum regarding alternate rectifier tubes. Do a search for 5y3gt and you should find it.

It's important to get matched power tubes. The Maz Jr is a cathode biased amp....they never need a bias adjustment. Don't bother with New Old Stock (NOS). Cathode biased amps are such a design that the tubes don't last that long. (Neither the fault of the tube or the amp) Besides, NOS are expensive.
JJ's seem to be a popular brand for EL84's.
I wouldn't change the rec tube right now. They either work, or they don't. Perhaps in the future you may want to get a specialized rec tube. (rec tubes don't need biasing)
As for the preamp tubes, they can last many years...so changing them might not be necessary...especially if it's a two year old amp. Preamp tubes don't need to be biased either.
So in summary...getting a new Maz Jr:
I'd pop in a new set of EL84's and fire it up!! Keep the old set for spares.

Thanks. Very helpful. Not tube related (I think), but when i turn the volume knob on the amp I get a crackle. The amp seems to be a little noisey as well. But that may be my basement.

That could also mean you need a re tube, especially since the amp is used. A re tube usually goes with the territory.
