And yes, i know the obvious difference is reverb, thats not my question.
I noticed in several threads members saying something along the lines of a NR model "having more OD tones." If this is true, is the difference that dramatic?
Thanks for the replies, Strato

Sorry Strato, I don't have an answer for your question.
I have a MAZ SR/ NR, but have never A/B'd it with a Reverb mode, so I can't help you there. But, I have tons of OD, especially using a Z-Brake. I use a Boss RV-3 Digital REverb/Delay pedal. I know there are much better reverb pedals out there, but for the dough, I like this pedal and the fact I have an effects loop is an added plus for all my other effect pedals such as phase, trem and chorus.
Hope this helps in your decision.
Regards, Paul G.

There is going to be some difference in tone simply because the NR model signal path is shorter with 2 fewer tubes and associated wiring. The fewer things between your guitar and speakers should equate to a "purer" tone.
That being said, I've played through both, although more through the reverb model because that's what I bought. To me the difference is negligible. The reverb control on my amp is rarely past 8-9 o'clock . These amps have plenty of depth and dimension to begin with, and the reverb allows you to accentuate that.
It boils down to what you prefer. If you like a nice sounding spring reverb, why not get it built in?

Cool... thanks for your help. I'm looking at the the MAZ 38 coming from a Twin Reverb. I like the Twin's headroom and the fact that i cant turn the Reverb past two. ;D Unfortunately there aren't too many shops I can find in my area that carry Z's, but there is a guitar center that gets a few used ones in their platinum room every once in a great while. Ive played a used Super Z and Route 66. I love the Route 6 but i need the headroom of the Super Z... which is why the MAZ Sr came to mind. Anyone know any good Z dealers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area? I know of one, however they sell very fast and the shop is small. Its hard to get in there and take a test drive.

Charley's Guitar Shop 2720 Royal Lane Dallas, Tx. 75229 (972) 243-4187 www.charleysguitar.com/Ask for Clay Powers as he is the owner and works there all day... Super great guy. Easy to get into and test drive any amp as much as you need. Bring your guitar or pick one off the wall to test the amp. I was in this week and he had a Mini-Z, Maz 18 Jr., and two other Z's. I think the other two were a Mazerati head and closed cab and Z-28.

Strato,
One other thing. I live in Plano and own a Maz 38 Sr. 1x12 combo with reverb. Your welcome to come over and take it for a test drive if that will help in your decison making. dngarris@swbell.net
