Boy, I hope noone ever takes a count of all the "which Z for me" threads Here's the thing: I've had a Maz Sr Reverb 2x12 combo (sadly it's gone) and I now own a Mazerati GT and a Galaxie 1x12 combo. I love them both but the GT is my main amp - I run it through a Z 2x10 cab. I can't believe I'm considering this, but I might sell the Galaxie for another Z amp. The Gal is a killer amp but I'm just dying for another Z (you guys have no idea what that's like huh? ). I'm thinking of a head and a 1x12 convertible cab and I'm also thinking of a master volume amp but I'm not married to the idea. More than 2 knobs would be nice... the GT is the best amp on the planet but if I had to change one thing it would be to be able to cut back on the mids a bit. I'm just wondering what you guys think? You know what amps I have and have had. If you were me, what you you try next? Would you try nothing and keep the Gal? I've always wanted a Maz Jr NR but the Rx Jr also intrigues me... then there'a the Rte 66. What to do? Well, I always enjoy reading these threads so I hope you guys don't mind me starting this. I appreciate any replies Thanks Jay

well let's see - what do you have to choose from? Maz Sr. Maz Jr. RX Jr. EZG-50 SRZ-65 Those are the amps with a Master Volume control. Happily, I've played all of them, and currently own three of them, as well as a Mazerati Gt, so I kind of have a feel for the differences. The SRZ-65 could be thought of as closest to the GT, although it is quite different in that it has a full complement of tone controls as well as a master volume, and it derives its power from the big bottles. The EZG-50 is probably the furthest away from the tones of the GT in that it really has that clean blackface tone down. The RX Jr is stupendous, although it's a lot fewer watts than the GT. One of the best master volumes I've owned. You've already had the Maz Sr, but not the NR. There's a bit more mojo with the NR version from everything I've seen here. And last but not least the Maz Jr. The NR version is simply one of the best amplifiers I've ever played. I'm having more fun with my Maz Jr than I ever thought possible, which is saying something pretty big after my experiences with the Stingray. The Maz Jr, in my view, should be considered one of the finest guitar amps ever designed. Now guess which is my favorite.

Well, I've been playing my Gal all morning (in between working ) and I'm not sure I can part with it ;D . It's such a sweet amp. But... that doesn't help my GAS at all I still want a new Z but now I might have to part with some guitars to get it. I'm thinking a Maz Jr NR combo, 2x10 or 1x12.

I've got a...er....few Z's ;D and 8 times out of 10 I plug into the MAZ Jr NR head. If you're a single coil player I've never heard a better, more*fun* to play amp. Amps like the MAZ GT, SRZ, EZG, etc. all are *killer* amps but the gain structure of the Jr NR sounds and feels so good to play...at a lower volume. I once read where Carl Verheyen said his "ground zero" reference amp is a blackface Princeton Reverb. My "ground zero" rig is guitar-T-Rex Room Mate-MAZ Jr NR-Z-Best. I can play anything through that and feel good.
It sounds good with humbuckers too but single coils *rule* with that amp. Everyone should own one ;D

Hi Jay, From your post, you didn't mention what type of music you play, or what sort of tone you're after. But the GT has the heavy tones covered, so I think the SRZ or Route 66 might be sort of redundant. Yes, they're a LOT different than the GT, but they're both rockin' amps. I'd suggest a Stang Ray or EZG to cover a great clean tone. If you're looking for an amp that will cover quite a few bases, I'd go with a Carmen Ghia or Maz Jr.
Good Luck, Brad

Oh man... I wish I had spent more time with the Remedy when I had the chance, but I couldn't pry Curt off that thing. I'm probably one of the few guys who has gotten to spend some time with the Remedy with the new 1/2 power switch installed. It is "all that". I can't wait for '09!!
