Gonna drive over to the West Coast this upcomming weekend. While I'm over there I'm gonna check out a Z dealer in Tampa.
What setings do you guys use? Or better yet where a good setting to start at.

As with everything, it depends. First thing it depends on is how hot your guitar is. Then it depends on whether you're trying for clean, crunch or overdrive. And it depends a great deal on what speaker you're driving. So you're probably not going to get a response of "set this here, and it will sound like that."
That said, the three controls that provide the largest variation are the treble control, the Overdose switch, and the volume control. Depending on your guitar, with the OD off, you can get nice cleans up to about 2 o'clock or so. With the OD on, you start getting pretty nice hair at noon. If you want real good saturation, click the Airbrake down and put the volume up to 3 o'clock or higher.
Of course this amp has a hi and lo input, so that affects your clean headroom too. Personally this amp smokes most other amps with a nice Les Paul into the hi input and the OD on with the volume above noon - just amazing.

Another thing to remember is that the EQ controls are before the EF-86. If you dime all of the EQ controls, you tend to get a bit more dirt than them lower.
I still take my friend's , who's an owner of a guitar store, advice when trying out a new amp. "Set everything straight up and if you can't get the sound you want, move on, because you'll never get it out of that amp."

So, let me get this right.
1. Bring my LP with me {Bent I don't know if it's gonna be good enough, but it will have to do} 2. Plug into a 2x10 cab {they have one} 3. Engage boost 4. Dime all controls and screw the air brake.
Ok I got it!!!!!

T-Rock,
Was wonderin if anyone caught that.
All in all I love my Asats. I think it's the attack, but I have been playing around with this one thing {not rock or metal} for a while. When I first played it on the LP with some drive it was like POW!!!! That is exactly what that piece is to sound like. Then I went back and played it on the Asat in a funkier way for a while and I was all in love with it untill last night when I played it on the LP again. No contest. The LP's smooth attack allows this to work. I simply need to learn a bit more on when to use it, where to use it, and how to use it.
It's really a lack of knowledge on the LP. Nothing personal as I know your LP player.

I just passed up a nice 93' plain top LP on ebay for about $1700. Most of my money I have has been sunk into my new business but I would have loved to have paired it with my new RXES. On a positive not I have a Fralin SP43 in the bridge of one of my teles. It sounds very P90-ish and going into the high input with the tone controls all cranked and the volume at noon I was getting some great barking tones while still retaining the tele twang. This amp is a great rock n roll machine. The honeymoon has just begun but I'm sure it's going to continue for a long time to come.

I think that the knobs don't matter, all you have to do is turn the amp on to get a good setting.

I recall Steve(benttop) saying the same thing. I agree totally Stuey, there isn't a bad setting on this one.

Yeah, move the knobs around - it's all different, but it's all good.

I have read about the brightness of the amp. Is it really bright? Fender Twin bright with a different flavor?
Can't waite to try one.

If you like darker tones, the Blue Dog is a slam dunk winner. That treble pot goes all the way to zero though, so yeah, if you insist on running it full up it will be bright.

Me - I have a Z 212 open-back cab with Blues - I plug my guitar (been using a Santana MD with the RXES) into the low output (only pedals are a FullDrive and Picture Wah).
Bass - 10 oclock Treb - 2 oclock Mid - noon
Volume depends on the venue. I have an Air Break always hooked up and typically on "2."
For myself alone and with tone and oneness, Mike

browndog, i have no idea how you run the treble at two oclock. No offense i have mine between 9 and 10 and if I have it above 10 it kills my ears....and i'm running an alnico blue dog which is a pretty dark speaker. Maybe there's something screwy with my ears!

I've clocked in about 160 gigs with an RXES head and Z Best cab loaded with a V30 & G12H30 running at 4ohms. To date, approximately 70 gigs with an r&b horn band, and 90 gigs with a country & rock mixed bag outfit that even includes some texas swing and bluegrass.
My primary electric is a Parker Southern Nitefly, which is their USA built "space-age" homage to a Telecaster. The pickups are Seymour Duncan's that came equipped in the guitar from the factory.
I'm going for a moderately fat clean sound, which I expand upon with pedals when needed. My overdrive pedals are an OCD v4 for lower gain requirements, and a Gristle King for medium to higher gain stuff. Both pedals sound fantastic with this amp.
Here's how I run the RXES head:
Low Input Overdose Switch On Volume @ 9:00 to 10:30* Treble @ 8:00 to 10:00* Middle @ 10:00 to 11:00* Bass @ 9:00 to 10:00*
*Depends on venue/room. These settings are based exclusively on low to medium output passive single coil pickups, mounted in 25.5" scale length guitars.

RestForYourSouls - I plug in to the low input jack; if I were to plug in to the hi input, I would certainly dial the Treb back.
With tone and oneness, Mike
