Bought some greenbacks and stuck em in my Z cab. It really rocks with the 6545! Classic rock all the way! Awesome tone. Still loud though....

What kinds of tones are you getting? Name some bands/songs, etc I've also wondered what greenies would sound like in my ZBest with the 6545.

Well, I've never played a 6545. But I used to own a KT45 and I currently own the SRZ65. I think both amps sound killer with Greenies. Honestly though, isn't the Greenback pretty much the standard by which all other rock speakers are judged?

With a Tele and the guitar vol cranked (or on the 65 side) it does a great Black Crowes thing. Back off the vol (or switch to the 45 side) and it's more like Counting Crowes. With a Strat the tone is hard for me to place, but very familiar. It can do a sort of SRV vibe but only different. Definately pleasing though. With a LP on the neck pickup and the vol cranked it does a great "Sweet Child of Mine" I've had the 6545 hooked up to a Gold and a Alnico Silver Bell, a Vintage 30 and a G12H30, and the pair of Greenbacks. The Greenbacks are by far my favorite with this amp. Just for comparison though..... I didn't like the Greenbacks nearly as well with the Mazerati GT. To my ears that amp sounds better w/alnicos. To Brads comment.... After playing thru the Greenbacks I recognize the voice of these speakers as being in a vast majority of the songs I've grown up with.

Greenback loaded quads ruled the late 60's & 70's. Most of the harder rock recorded back then was with greenback loaded cabs or Fender twins with utahs.
I'm pretty sure "Sweet child of mine" was recorded with a v30 though. It was and still is Slash's choice of speaker.
For rock and dirtier blues but maybe not country ala chicken picken Brad Paisely styles I like them as well and they have a lot of fans. A 2x12 loaded z best cab is also great with a Galaxie (trcock's) favourite setup, they sound great in an open back with an RXES and a single greenie is "THE" speaker in my opinion with the Z28.

my 6545 through my 4x12 loaded with heritage greenbacks sounds incredible. Also it tames the super heavy low bass-y-ness the 6545 tends to have. But I think thats more because the cab is an avatar cab which doesn't have a lot of volume.

Slash probley did you V30's but if you've played his SD Alnico 2's they are low output and Smooth as Hot Butter. Its a balance, not just the speakers. You have to go though your whole chain from the guitar to the speaker.

This may be blasphemous but "Sweet Child Of Mine" sounds like a Valvestate to me. In fact just recently I heard a young band playing it in town and I thought the guitar player's tone was identical to the song and sure enough, he was playing a dirty ole' Valvestate. Ok, now I shall duck, weave and dodge all the Slash fans. ;D (I do love Slash by the way)
BOT I would love to hear a quad of greenies with this amp.
