KT 88's........j/k
Though I've never tried them in my Jr, I did use a pair of TAD 84's in my 18w and they did get a bit more headroom than either JJ's or Ei's in the same amp.

I'd be curious for some firsthand info too. Anyone try a 12AT7 or 5751 in v1?

FWIW, I popped a new production 5751 into v1 last night, it had a minor drop in gain. I popped it into v3 and there was a huge change in better cleans, smoother gain, etc. I'm going to follow what Curt did with his and get a couple of NOS 5751's and replace both v1 and v3.

I haven't tried it in that situation yet, but I don't thing that it would be an issue at all. Especially with an efficient speaker or a better yet a Z Best. It's a very loud 15 watts. Good luck Friday!

Yeah, you'll probably want a pretty efficient speaker, but it's pretty loud!

5751 in V1 and V3.
Use NOS if you have the means, and make sure the V3 one is a balanced long plate version.

Exactly what NOS tubes did you put in yours? I'm drawing a blank on the brand I suggest calling Mike @ KCNOS and see what is available, Mike will steer you right.

LOL, I've got KCA up in another window for the last day with 3 different sets of 5751s in the cart: Jan Phillips, RCA Black Plates and Jan GE's (80's). Hard to pick just one set.

Just popped into the house and the new tubes were here.....you will be VERY happy. Like Curt stated in another thread, there is just a little bit more of everything...a little tighter, more warmth, depth and an even sweeter highend chime than before. I really liked this amp before....now I LOVE it. I'm sure that there is a drop in volume, but for what I am doing it's a non issue and for that matter I can't really hear the drop.

Sweet!!! I hope this does wonders. I was even, gulp, considering trading this baby for an EZG or a Z 28. Wanted a titch bit more of a fendery tone.

In all honesty, I was contemplating swapping out for another Z amp as well but now it's back to simply adding more Z's. The Jr is a keeper!
Todd, I just noticed over on Facebook that we have the same birthday....go figure.
