I've been thinking about doing the dual amp thing for a while, & pairing up my Fender Showman with my Maz Jr 2X10. Showman = clean sound, Maz = OD goodness. So, instead of carting around another speaker cab, I've been thinking about getting a Radial Headbone and using the Maz's speakers as the "host". They're rated for 140 watts or so, so *in theory* the Maz cabinet can handle it. In fact, I've plugged the Showman into the Maz speakers experimentally & it sounded great. Am I crazy? Will I blow everything up? Anyone done this before? Thoughts?

I have and have used the Headbone, and it can do what you are trying to do. There are a couple minor caveats, for specific circumstances. If you use effects in the loop, you can't use delay type effects just before you switch heads or you risk blowing up the Headbone. It doesn't seem likely that would be the case since you're switching to a head that doesn't have a loop. And the setup is a bit congested because you plug your guitar, both heads, and the cab all into the Headbone. You have to pay attention or get things bolixed - don't try setting it up in the dark!
Other than that it should work exactly as you've described and should work well.

Thanks benttop!
No, I don't run anything in the loop. these days it's me & a couple of stomp boxes up front.
Also, I intend on labeling all the cables to avoid just such a confusion - a trick I learned back in my "rack o' doom" days... :-)

I was running my EZG along with a Divided by 13 through the Headbone into a EVH 5150 III 4x12 cab and for some reason the EZG would alternate between a slight fade and full power - not sure why that happened but I decided not to use the Headbone with it. The headbone did work properly with a pair of Marshall 100 watt amps into a marshall 4x12 1960 cab.

Hi Detuned, I bought a Headbone from OMS, and it's a great piece of gear. If you lived closer, I'd let you check mine out. But if you're not using lots of effects, I'm sure you'd love it.
Good Luck, Brad

Just a small caution... I had & used a Headbone for awhile, and it worked GREAT. Then it stopped working. I had to send it back to Radial (in Canada) for repair... no warranty/bought used... and they fixed it, about a month turn-around time, because the tech there "couldn't find anything wrong with it", but after I pestered him over email a couple times he finally found an "intermittent problem, and fixed it. After another month or so using it, it broke AGAIN. I wasn't going to pay another $15 shipping & $65 repair fee... that would bring me up to $160 in repairs, I only paid $175 for the thing...
Now, maybe I just got a lemon, but I just wanted to caution that mailing things back to Canada for repair can be costly & time-consuming. I've read very little bad press on Radial's reliability, but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.

So what other head switchers are forumites using? Seems like a good discussion to get first hand feedback on reliability, build, features, price, etc.

There are the Framptone switchers from Keeley, but I think those switch from two totally separate amp/ cabs, not between two heads into the SAME cab like the Headbone.

For what it's worth, I had problems with my Headbone too, but not so serious that I couldn't use it. With some amps it will break into a parasitic oscillation. That tended to be only with really high gain amps though. Two cleanish to crunchy amps seem to work fine here.

I have found the Radial headbone to be a cool piece of gear and would suit your basic requirement .... two amps, one speaker.
As a side note .... Z-28 / Carmen Ghia is a great setup that I have done many times with a Z 2x10 cab.
