I've been using TAD 6L6 short bottles in my Allen Old Flame for some time but they don't seem to last very long. I checked all the voltages and the resistors on the tube sockets, plus replaced the output sockets. I used to use Svetlana 6L6's, back before EH got a hold of them.
I can get Groove Tubes locally but don't know if they have a relabeled and tested =C= equivalent. Anyone know if they do? If not, I may try the 6L6S. Sorry Myles, the GT GE doesn't float my boat. Different strokes, right?

I dont think there is a GT labeled version of the WInged C. The Winged C's are readily available and are the real deal tube made in the old Svetlana plant in St Petersburg.
Great sounding, stout 6L6. What is happening to the TAD tubes? I love their 6L6 WGC short bottle in Fenders. They sound great, and the matching is unreal! The only amp I had problems with that tube was the Soldano Lucky 13. It runs at over 500 plate volts, and after burning out a couple of tubes, found out that Soldano likes to bias this amp at 25 ma per tube!. A little on the cool side, but still sounds good. Other than that, I'm a big fan of the TAD.

The TADs do sound great, but they just aren't lasting long. After a few months, 3 or so, one will go bad, arc and hum like crazy. I replaced the output tube sockets, checked the resistors and voltages and everything looks good. I put another set of TADs in and one goes after a few hours of playing at home, not even pushing them.
I put a set of Groove Tube labeled JJ's I had laying around in for this weekend and had no problems. It sounded good, but didn't thrill me. Think I'll order a set of SEDs form KCA or Tube Depot.

The GT6L6R2 was the winged C (St. Petersburg) tube, not the Sovtek tube but GT ran out of those in medium ranges long long ago. But ... I think you can get them from either Mike at www.kcanostubes.com or Steve Martin at www.tubesandmore.comThe TAD tubes are made in China as a side note.
