I know I'm not alone when it comes to switching amps. When I had my Carmen Ghia I couldn't sing its praises enough. However, now that I have a Z-28 I'm smitten with this new sound and power. I feel kind of stupid for going on and on about the CG, but I've found a new love. In all honesty I think I could stick with the 28 amp for the rest of my days with no regrets. I was just emailing a friend that for the first time I really hear the bell-like tones so many talk about from single coil pickups. My wife has been working at home through the summer and I work out of the hosue as well. But I'm looking forward to her going back to working at a school in August so I can have my mid-day guitar break with all the volume I desire.

Hey stout, the progression from Ghia to 28 is a good one, isn't it? ;D I'm still honeymooning with mine, love everything about it. I keep wondering how long before I plug back into my Ray.

Now that's a bold statement when you say your Stang Ray is being neglected. My friend who sold me the 28 says the Ray should be my next amp, but right now there aren't any cravings. I guess if I attended Z-fest that might inject me with G.A.S.. In some ways I'm fortunate to not have a local Z dealer to tempt and torment me with desire. Thanks Bill for sharing how much you like your 28.

you know I keep talking about another amp, but that has nothing to do with the Z-28 and how wonderful it sounds. The Mesa is great also but it's not anything close to the fell I get from the Z-28 and that is what keep the idea for another amp alive. It sits there I play it and say well it's worth $700 and that is half way there.
The Z-28 is outragous. It's the best amp I've ever owned. It has taken the place of the Soldano ROS as the amp I judge other amps to.

If I could only have one amp my Z28 112 w/GB would be it. Although I'm still gassing on a Weber 1225 w/prerola treatment for it.

Every once in a while, we stumble across a true "keeper"...an amp that consistently delivers and is never finicky about what's being plugged into it. The Z-28.

I've tried out a few Z's now and I've found that the Z-28 fits my small/medium clubs needs perfectly.
It's definitely a keeper.

Mine is due next Wednesday. I can't wait. Z28 Head and ZBest cab with the G30H and a Celestion Blue Bell. I am very excited. I will have two 6V6's that I found in a 1960's Ampex tape recorder in it too. I can see a vacation day coming next week. LOL

toneslinger, just leave her stock for a bit. Nothing wrong with the stock set up, burn up those first and then see if it's an improvement with the NOS stuff.

I'll try things both ways. However, Myles says that the difference in tone will be incredible. Like "taking a blanket off the amp". That's saying a lot for an amp that sounds incredible stock. I"ll let you know how big of a difference there is between the sets of tubes.

After I got my 28 my StingRay went on the block, I know I should not say this but I will anyway, for what I do the 28 had it all over the StingRay....it just sounded better and was much more versatile.... Not that the Ray was a bad amp, it was not, but the problem is that the 28 is such a great amp that most everything else I have or have played pales in comparsion....one of the best of the Z;s if not the best far as I am concerned...

I changed my rectifier to a NOS Mullard and POW! The single most dramatic not invasive improvement in sound , the right move for sure... I also switched to a RedFang...annother good move IMHO....these amps are just killer...I am holding out for the 4 6V6 version coming later.....
