I may be switching from my Ghia to a Z-28. I'm wanting more headroom and tone control with a little taste of Fender. Am I crazy or will I be satisfied?
How does the 28 sound with two 10 inch speakers? My current cab is the old style Z 2x10.
Thanks for your help on this one.

I think it's the perfect step up. I did exactly that about 4 years ago...went from a Ghia that was pretty amazing, to a Z28 that was even more amazing. They're actually kind of similar re: clean to gain, only more headroom with the 28. I then went from that rig to an RxES, Stingray, Maj Jr, Maz Sr, Mazerati...and now back to the Z28! They're all very good amps, but the 28 is special, at least to me!

I'm totaly blown away by the Z-28. I love the clean tones, clean-ish tone, and now getting my face blown off by the dirty Les Paul tones. Sounds pretty darn good with Asat's, Legacy, and Les Paul. hell, even the Paul sounds good clean.

Z-28 with 210 cab? I got the older style rectangular cabinet and I love it. I really think it is the shiz with the Z-28 and all my guitars ..... even my 87 Squier Strat. Better yet, grab yerself a Y-cord and run into a 112 AND 210 cab ;D ;D ;D

yeah, 1-12, 2-10, 4-12 or any combo of the above.. with the 28 they all sound great...I use a 3-12 set up with one RedFang in the 28, and an Avatar BB cab with a VIN30 and and a G12H...killer. if you roll off the treble and run the bass around 11 or so you can get some good Fender sounds. but there are soooo many great sounds in this box that just beg to be played that you will hear everything from JTM to Plexi to AC30 to DR to , well you get the idea....but the best part is this amp really is something special. just play it, it will find its own "spot" for you..from there you can do just about anything with this amp....it just blows me away the Marshall sounds you can get from this....WCMary is in there, watchtower is in there.....that great "bite" , its in there...the smoooooth, its in there... I love this amp. I can;t imagine anyone not, as a matter of fact I would like to hear from someone that does not like this amp, just curious as to why.. perhaps the best for me is that its a Z so it has its own special thing going on, that in the other Z amps that I have played do not have.....I would even go so far as to say that this rates right up there with the best 3 amps I have ever played...a 50Watt Plexi, a BF SuperReverb, modded to do a half power thing and this 28, if I had those amps now I would be in a major smile fest...I do have the SR and the 28, sold the plexi thinking I can get annother, and I could, just not one like the one I sold...I learned if they are that good, keep em cause you will never get annother exactly like it... Enjoy the 28 it truely is a great amplifier

I just got my Z28 and absolutely love it. I'm really digging the Fenderish quality and even a little bit of Marshall thrown in when the amp is cranked. It's a nice compliment to the Ghia.

All the comments so far plus sound clips I listened to have me feeling positive about trying the Z-28. It should be here Thursday or Friday and I'll share what I discover.

You are gonna love it. I really love the characteristics of both the Ghia and the Z28. The smooth tone of the 28 is killer. I had to have both!

Here's another vote for the Z-28 John. I've had it for about 15 months now also own a ghia and it's a keeper for sure. I've said it before and I will say it again, it's the perfect small club amp, if there is such a thing.

Love the Z28 with 2x10 cabinet. At first when playing I would switch between a 1x12 Greenback and the 2x10. In fact I recorded a lot of the leads with Greenback on our debut CD. But now I am doing the 2x10 or 4x10 sound. Clips at www.myspace.com/houndstoothbluesLet it Roll - Lentz SSL z28 on fills and lead break with delay added at board Black Coffee - 2nd lead break LP Special w/P90s z28 w/Greenback I highly recommend a clean boost pedal it using the Dragon right now had a Fat Boost before. With the Z28 it really takes a clean boost well.

I have two OD pedals on my board, a Fulltone OCD for HIGH gain and a Sparkle Drive which I use as a clean boost. I thnk I'm going to have some fun when the 28 arrives.

I got to turn mine up this weekend at a medium sized club (100 people). All knobs near 12 o'clock treble and bass varied depending on the song. Just what I was looking for when I replace my deluxe and Astroverb. No mush, tight bottom, and great string separation.
Looking forward to your review.

The 28 arrived this afternoon and I'm a happy swapper! Here's the whole story:
The friend I got my Ghia from knew that I wanted something with a little more clean headroom and power. He was never into his Z-28 1x12 combo that much and really missed the Ghia, so he shipped me his Z-28 chassis for a taste test. If I liked what I heard, then all I had to do was send him the CG chassis.
Well I definitely liked what I heard. My single coils are shimmering and growling with their best sound ever and I can fine tune my tone even more. So the Z-28 is a keeper. It's one of the gold faced editions too.
My buddy is happy because he's putting the Ghia in his combo with a Celestion Blue and the black face matches his KT-45 now.
Someday I'll get some clips recorded and also add a Z 1x12 cabinet to my Z 2x10.

My favorite setting is all knobs at 3PM, but I can't do that without the soundman gettin' on my a$$.
