Just bought stratbrat's Stangray head. I can't WAIT to get it - got a four-nighter coming up at the end of next week and I plan to do some serious bonding with it.
Problem is, I don't have an alnico/alnicos to throw in any of my cabs. Gotta get me one ASAP.

Congrats on a great amp. You don't need alnicos to appreciate the Ray but I think it's like pb and jelly.

I just finished a four nighter, my first gig with the 'Ray. I used it with an Avatar 2x12 (v30/G12) and and Airbrake, and I was amazed at how good it sounded through ceramic speakers, despite all the praise I see for the Ray + alnico combination. I still plan to grab an alnico for a 1x12 cab I have, but I'm thinking this Avatar cab will be great for big/loud gigs or gigs where we tend to do more rock.
The honeymoon may still be going on, but I can honestly say I've never been this happy with an amp.

Poppycock!
How can anyone fully enjoy a Stingray without a few Alnico Blues? ;-)

I dunno, Neuromancer, I've got Alnico Golds with mine! But you know, I still like the greenbacks with the Stangray just as much. Hmm, now that's interesting.

Don't quote me but:
My Z-Dealer said that if I ever "blow" my single Alnico Blue using my Stingray, he will give me a brand new Alnico Blue, no charge.
He tried to blow a single Alnico Blue with a 50 watt Marshall on "10" and was unsuccessful after half an hour.
Use ear plugs...;-)

I blew a 30 wt speaker in a 35-ish wt amp playing a 4 hour bar gig. Got it reconed and sold it and went to a 50wt speaker. Brad Paisley also kept blowing the alnico blue's, and that was in a 2x12 configuration playing 30 wt amps.

The voice coil on those 15 watt blues are pretty small and fragile. I love the sound for certain things but they can be expensive to replace. I agree with telejas, get it in writing!
