Sent an email to the dr. but figured I'd ask around here if anyone knew what might be up. My maz 38 has been doing this thing where it will just start popping and crackling a bunch and the volume will drop really low, then completely drop out altogether. After I leave the amp off for a while and turn it back on it will work again, but eventually will repeat the same process. The problem is definitely within the amp. I've tried the same exact cabinet/cables/setup with a different head and it worked fine. Also, even when I completely unplug my guitar from the z all together it still gets the popping and crackling noises. Any idea what's going on?

What's the status of your tubes? How long's it been since you changed any of them?
You can clear about 80% of these kinds of issues with tube replacements. About 50% of the rest are mechanical problems like oxidized effects loop contacts. The rest you need a tech for, but you can probably clear this up with Tubes or contact cleaner.

Replaced the pre amp tubes(v1 and v2), and replaced all the power amp tubes a few weeks ago. Not sure how old the rest are, though.

A shot in the dark. Less likely to be a rectifier as typically it works or it's just dead. I wonder if you phase inverter is doing something strange between the 2 sides and causing kaos with your power tubes? Bear in mind that I'm electronically challenged. Don't worry though as there are plenty of people on the forum with plenty of savvy on this stuff

My Maz Jr had similar symptoms and it was a bad phase inverter tube (v3, I think?).
