Depends, if you want to add a pedal , the guitar pickups etc....I can get some of that middy woody meaty cut that dosen;'t make you cringe, with a barber direct drive you can really dial in some great sounds. I don;t think it can get a 59 bassman sound but it can resemble that sound...I have found that this amp is really hard to nail down as it "sounds like......" Its supposed to sound like a brownface, and it well might, but it sounds like alot of things... marshall, Vox, Fender and all sorts of stuff inbetween... The short answer I think is yes, they are in there its just a matter of getting them out.... I have found this to be the case with all the Z's that I have owned or played very simple controls that do really complex things.... All I really know is that the 28 sounds killer!....no matter what tones are coming out of it!

If you want tweed, I think the Galaxie is your amp. I don't get "tweed" from my z28 (it's also going through a greenback, very untweedish).

Any tube amp clean with a Fulltone Fat Boost 2 with sound tweedy if you crank the drive.
I have loaned it to 4 different people and gotten the same responce each time. Everyone thinks it sounds great as a booster and great as a tweed drive pedal.
I could make my Mesa Maverick sound exactly like a '59 SLP 100 with it but at 1/2 the volume through a 4x12 greenback cab. Seriously, we A/B untill we nailed it. While that is a british tweed the pedal will do the american thing also.

I would say it can get you into tweed Bassman or Bandmaster territory but the single tone knob tweeds, not so much. As far as the brown Deluxe sound, I don't hear that at all in a Z28. I don't know how that got started.

i may get in trouble for this... but if you want an "authentic" tweed sound, get a Victoria. however, if you want something that is tweed-"ish", but with more flexibility and a voice all its on then get a Z (probably the Galaxie would be your best bet). cheers!

I wouldn't say the Z28 is tweed like. Tweed tone is great and the foundation for many great songs that have been written, the Galaxie like T'rock said will get you there and more but if you get a chance to play a Z28 you won't look back. Simple to use with a myriad of great tones, it's quite possibly one of the best all round club gigging rigs ever made. I've been playing mine all week with a smile on my face. My strats and tele's couldn't sound any better and if you have a Les Paul just wind all knobs out to 3 o clock and your doing Billy G'.

man that White Custom keeps getting tossed back at be with this talk about a Les Paul smokin in the Z-28.
I don't own any humbucker guitars, but I really want a Custom. O-yeah!!!!

asattwanger: you need some humbuckers!!!!!!! so many great choices out there - LP and 335 style guitars are my favs. Gibson's VOS stuff is real nice and a good bang for the buck (relatively speaking).

Yeah, I have never been much a fan of the tone, but now I have bases covered with 3 great single coil guitars it's time to find the keeper of the humbucker tone. Problem is I want to instantly become Zakk Wylde when I hold one of these, but here along the lines of what I'm looking at. and yes, the plain top VOS in cherry burst are nice. I hate I mean hate flame topped guitars. DAVE

perhaps one of these bad birds - not many like them, but with a set a Lollars... Humbucker fatness with twang and a vibrato that's pretty stable with multiple stings bends. Sorry went off thread but I couldn't resist and I'd love to have a Z-28.

yeah, that's cool guitar and while I love the mini-hummers the overall package is not quite me.
I'd realy like a Goldtop with minibuckers, butthey only come in Rosewood boards and that aint gonna fly on a $3000 guitar.
