Just got a z-28 used form the z forum. I like it... I ran it through a z 1x12 cab with a celestion g30. It sounds great. Really raunchy. It starts to break up nicely at about 9-10 o'clock on the vol knob. Through the airbrake it is fire breathing.
I compared to my Prescription ES 1x12 w a celestion gold. As good as the z-28 sounds, it's nowhere near as full and complex as the prescription. I was thinking about using both and switch between the two. Using the ES for Rhythm and the z28 for leads.

You gotta spend some time w the tone controls on the Z-28. they are 'non traditional' but yield all kinds of sonic variety

I'm going to mess around with it later today. How do you think it would sound out of a z 2x10 compared to the 1x12?

I love my 2x10... I just got the G12H30 cab and haven't got a good chance to compair them yet. I'm guessing you need to turn down the bass and treb a bit and you'll be able to turn it up more without being so "Really raunchy"
If you like clean clean cleans then yeah your idea will work.
