That's a 28 with a greenback, he posted the video on the Z soundclip page. I can attest it sounds exactly like that with a strat!

I use the 28 whenever I can ....just something about that amp. I have a Eminence RedFang in mine with a NOS mullard rect. Without a doubt one of the top 3 amps I have ever had the pleasure to play, and playing it is a real pleasure...the tone is addicting. A great amp.

Dude, xactly like that one Me and another Z brother are getting one each. That'll be 3 in Aus Maybe theres more.. I think Jayes brother in law has one? So how many Z's you got George? The Invasion, Ghia and this Z 28? I will have the Maz Jr, RX ES, and Z 28. Mate Rob has a Maz Sr, and will soon have a Z28, my mate here is getting a mini Z. Jaye has the Route 66. And if he ever makes up his mind and gets that new Stangray/Mazerati GT/RX ES/RXJr, then we could stage our own Aus Z Fest

Ive got a red galaxie that came from Oeser's musical supplies via my Winchester, Tennessee as well. I can't make up my mind if I want a RXES or Stangray instead.........I really like the cleans on both. The RXES, to me, sounds like an AC30 top boost more than any other Dr Z model. The Z-28 by the way is just about the perfect small gig amp. It's tight and focused and doesn't fart out like an old deluxe. It really does have this juicy, spongey tone to it. Winding all the dials to 3 o clock is just one way to play it. If you do that just use the volume on your guitar to clean it up a little. I usually play it that way if i am playing a Les Paul but if I am playing a strat or tele I set the volume at around 11' bass at 1:30 and treble at 12:30. These settings can vary slightly depending on the room obviously. It's a great amp, it can cover a lot of ground. Like lots of folks have said here, with a single greenback it's a match made in heaven.

I really looking forward to catching up and saying hi and checking the RXES out. Like I said a lot of folks seem to praise the Stangrays cleans but to me the RXES seems to have lovely chime and complex overtones with cleans as well. What are your thoughts?

Thanks man, but as im Australian, i have to order 240 volt amps, or else use a stepdown transformer. So im in the line waiting till mine are made. Thanks for the suggestion tho, it came down to Willcuts or Fat Sound, and i went Fat sound. Glad i have so far, Stu and Mike were very helpful and polite. Cant wait! Hey George, im looking forward to your visit too, hope you get enough time for a jam man I think the RX is a way clean amp, in fact you wont get breakup with a strat till very very loud! You need a pedal for that. But my ES 137 really loves on that amp. Has amazing breakup, and the overtones, the harmonic content and touch nuances are astounding. Thru a pair of greenbacks, i usually have an emotional experience... tearing up thinking about it... HA! Its a great amp man. Will have my airbrake soon, so will surely discover a new amp within. ;D

They are a great sounding amp. I really like it through the Z best oddly enough although I haven't heard it through my Ulbrick 1-12 cab which I think it would like too. Bro in law has a Dr Z 4-10 cab but it has a speaker not working at the moment so I'm sure I haven't heard it properly yet. Notice last time I played it, that there is a 12ax7 in the phase invertor position too. Probably gives it earlier breakup. It still has plenty of headroom for a low wattage amp. I really like the way the z28 can go from Fendery clean to Led Zep style overdrive, all at a pretty friendly volume. Not quite the balls of the Route 66 (what does?) but easier to get happening through a multiple speaker cab and not be over loud. Plenty loud for gigs although I did have it maxed and was almost on the verge of struggling once but that was an original gig and that is one loud band. That's an awesome tone on that clip!

Hey Jaye, have you decided which way you are going to go regarding increasing your Dr Z arsenal?
I really think for sparkling complex cleans ala "the Police" you won't go wrong with the Ray'. I myself keep jumping back and forth between it and the RXES. It's very hard to decide when you can't hear them in person. The Galaxie by the way is an absolutely sensation rig. If you really had to you could gig that thing without pedals without peeling paint off walls. I'm loving it.........but then again I'm loving all of them!

Yeah, I'm a little torn, that overdose is a great sound. And the clean RXES is beautiful. Awesome rock rig through a 4-12 with greenies. I'd say the 'Ray is just in front, but I have 4 weeks before I move into our newly built house and I've taken the week off work to organise stuff and keep an eye on the whole thing. So I'm a little short on bucks this week and need to be careful. There is a lot of landscaping to do including a steep driveway, so I've got a lot of work ahead of me. And a lot of spending!!!! If the Police thing looks like working more I'll splurge out for sure. I'm gonna get an Ulbrick soon too. Not sure which yet, same dilemma!
