You're going to love the "open back" with two Blues and Ray.

We traded our Hot Rod DeLuxe on our 'Ray. Fun amp.
Just before we did, we installed new power tubes and it sounded way better.
We had been playing it with tired tubes for a year at least.
Still, no regrets - it got us into a Dr. Z.
Looking forward to the Maz Junior NR, which will spend MOST of its time atop our Z-Best.

OFF THE TRUCK AND HOME!!!
I now own both a "standard" Z-Best, and an Dr. Z open-back 2x12 twin Alnico Blues.
I'm surprised to say, but with a 'Ray, the open-back wins.
They are a matched set, to my ears.
Ordered the Maz Junior NR to ease my pain.
Can't wait to hear the Maz Jr. NR on the 'Best.

I'd like to hear it with a G-12H and Gold . Oh and I have played a Maz 18 and Z/best and that is a GREAT combination.

TAS-
I think either a Blue or Gold paired with either a G12h30 or EVM would be a killer arrangement. I have the BLUE/EVM thing and love it-- huge tone.

Cool Hohn!
I'm sure the 2 x blues are spectacular but I would need that cab to be a little more versatile, hence going with a Gold and G12H. I can see a big wattage amp in my future, the 2 blues wouldn't cut it. I don't think 2 blues would work that great with the Route 66 either, whereas the G12H and Gold in an open back may be a nice addition and something different to the Z best.

I could trade in my Z-Best, but the basic speaker setup does sound great. Or I could swap speakers one at a time - all it takes is time & money. ;-)
The Gold is very interesting for higher wattage applications - not sure I would want two of them - so a G12H is a logical first choice.
