I did a similar clip to this with a Maz Sr (drop D) a while back. Here's a little longer version with a Z28. Verb & delay added at board...Tele/ Keeley comp/ BB pre/ Z28...amp settings shown below. With the comp dials at noon it gooses the amp pretty loud, I used this exact setting with a 6 piece band Saturday night! Z28 sound clip

very nice. I have a mini mass but I think this amp sounds better (well any amp really) set with the volume low and pushing it with a BB or the like. I love the look of your amp. Sounds great too!

Gosh, I can't describe it, beautiful and dreamy, just gorgeous tone. I want to hear more. The prettiest Z I've seen too, did you do that yourself?

Thanks for the comments guys! Curt sent me a PM asking about my SM-57 mic holder...it is a 12x8x6 inch box and it's great, although it has a tendency to make the tone a little 'cardboard' sounding.

Bill -
Great looking Z-28!
Great sounding clip, too. I just got a Z-28 head myself and it hits the spot volume and tone wise for me. Great amp.
Let's hear more clips.

Bill, great clip as always.
I'm hearing hints of a a Neal Schon type of tone. That Z-28 sounds simply wonderful.

Thanks everyone, glad you liked the clip! And thanks to whoever gave me the karma point. You have a keen eye, Harvey...I believe its the upgraded USPS version mic base station, but I'll have to check. I hear the DHL release gets even better tone!

I'm hearing hints of a a Neal Schon type of tone. Not just hints of tone....hints of the style. You've got the Schon feel down man!! NICE playing!

Any resemblance to Neal is purely coincidental (or subliminal ), although I must admit he would probably rate in my top ten for the style he plays. Thanks Steve, Jason & Frank! Just for fun & comparison, here's the same basic clip from a year ago done on a Maz Sr head, exact same guitar and pedals: Maz Sr clip

damn Bill. I don't care what Z amp, or what gtr you're playin' - you just nail some sweet-a$$ tones. And do it with such nice style and tasteful chops too. I was listening to about 10 of your various clips a few minutes ago and Michelle walked by (not knowing who was playing) and said - "now that's some sweet guitar playing". Considering I was playing about an hour earlier this evening, my now non-existent ego thanks you. Seriously, thanks a million buddy... And BTW - your new Z28 sounds amazing. Really amazing. Maybe it really is the cardboard box??? ;D

Compared it to the MAZ 38 clip and all I can say is: I'm really starting to appreciate the sound of a 6V6. I'm getting excited.
I would also say that the playing on the Z28 clip is much more expressive. It's deeper if that makes any sense.
I want to hear more of that! ;D

You're right Harvey. I should be aggravated with him, because I was zeroed in on a RT66. Made up my mind - done deal - etched in stone -no question about it - a 66 would be my next Z.
Then Bill gets this daggone Z28 w/a greenback (my fav speaker BTW) and lays down this sweet track for all of us to "enjoy" and now I got a one way ticket back to Indecision-ville. Ugggghhh...
Point that KT45 at him all night next gig and get even for me... ;D

I had never been a huge 6V6 fan, but garsh the couple Z28 clips I've heard recently are making me rethink that. Maybe this is the amp that could fianlly wean me from pedals...

John & Harold, you guys are too kind...glad you got something from the clips, thanks! John, sorry to add to your confusion There are some very similar qualities in the 66 and 28, I checked my iTunes player for a long lost 66 clip I made last year but couldn't find it. The 6V6 28 has a little more sparkle (to my ears), which comes through nicely on the tele neck p/u. It also has a surprisingly strong low end, unlike the Fender 6V6 amps you have tried. I'm finding in Harvey's band having MM on bass requires me to use LESS bass (you obviously know that too), so the greenback appears to be the perfect arrangement....less bass, more mids, high end rolloff. Both are significantly different than your two Maz's, so I'm guessing you'd be happy with either. Let me know if you want to borrow the 28 for a practice or gig, no problem brother!

Bill....you've got some great touch. I just listened to the Maz clip...same sweetness to your playing. As much as I think this statement wont help sell Zs, that tone is in your fingers man, not in the amp!
