Well I think overall the Z-28 sounds best when the Mini mass is not in the chain, got my mini mass last night a 50 watt one.
When off and in chain sounds almost as good but I sense a little bit of added raspiness. Now whats weird to me is that when I have the mini mass volume/attenuator know all the way off( 0 attenuation) and flick the attenuator to on. I imeidately get a good 4 db attenuation. I find that volume is very gradual from all the up or 0 attenuation to about 2. Its very faint gradual softening of the volume. 2 isnt much softer than 5, and 5 isnt that much softer then 8. It seems the most attenuation happens just by turning it on with the thing set to 0 attenuation. So I keep the mini mass on about 8 and i would gather its taken the 22 watts down to about 5 or about 3 db lower.
It does suck some high end and a tad of the low end out but the treble boost on the attenuator helps. The added trebel sounds good but not as good if the mini mass was out of the chain.
So in the long and the short of my rambeling, the mini mass helps tame the z-28 and sounds good, but the z-28 sounds better without the attunation at all.

Thanks for the review cisspcism. We want to hear the good and the bad here. Fed Ex is delivering an AirBrake today, so I'm keen on attenuators, what works and what doesn't.

Personaly I like the Micro Mass and the Mass Lite better. The idea of having two nobs to adjust the volume is better than one nob and a toogle for adjusting the high end. All the other nobs on the other models are for your recording out. So features for something that isn't used for the main reason we buy Airbrakes for....
Also, you'll notice that the Low/mids is what controls your volumes and the Hi/mids control the balance of the tone. In no way am I saying this stops or prevents the squashing of tone at low volumes or the added compression you get. What I'm saying is you get to choose how much of your highs get used.
