I have read tons of info on how you guys love a Greenback in a 1x12 cab with the Z-28. However I was thinking of getting a open back 1x12 cab with a GH30 in it. What are your thoughts? Pros and cons apreciated.

That could work just as good but I've found that the greenback works best of all the speakers I have tried. The 28' has a slightly darker, spongier feel to it that works really well with the greenie and at 22 watts mated with a 25 watt speaker is perfect for blues and rock. I guess it just depends what style you play and what guitar you are using. I have also used a weber alnico 30 watter (12a125) with really nice results as well. I think if I had a Gretsch hollowbody that would have nailed some really nice rockabilly riffs in a small rig.

...i have an extension cab with a Tonker in it which is very similar in character to a G12H30...its a bit louder with a little more headroom and more bottom but very similar...its a great speaker with the Z-28 and brings it more into its "fendery" side....i think the G12H30 would produce similar results...the combo of the Tonker and the Greenback i keep in the Z-28 is for my tastes the cats pajamas...you get the big bottom end and sparkly highs of the Tonker with the softer crunch of the Greenback....i once had a Z-best with the Greenie /gH30 combo and it too had it all going on...

Could you hear the Greenback with the Tonker?
This is one of my concerns with greenback after I heard the differences between all the other speakers I ran verse the 2x10. Brent also mention that the GH30 would match the 2x10 better when played together.

I think the G12H30 is an ideal speaker for the Z28. It's my normal set-up in my 1X12 cab. It is a bit louder and less "woody" than a Greenback, but has much more bass content. I would define a G12H30 as a full range version of a Greenback. I don't think you could go wrong with adding one to your speaker arsenal.
I've just installed a Weber 1225 which kind of falls in between a greeny and a h30.. nice speaker as well.

Eminence Red Fang is the speaker that I am using now, I like the way it sounds and gives a compression factor as well. I think it sounds as good or better than a Celestion Blue, if that is the type speaker you like. I have a Tonker in my 38, and have been thinking of switching speakers just to see how it sounds....one thing for sure the Tonker is a very loud speaker so it may give the 28 a little bit more in the overall sound as the Tonker is pretty much more of everything. The Fang has all the bottom, sparkle and bark of the Celestion but I think due to its higher power output it holds together better. It sounds great overdriven as well...I think the 28 is such a good amp that pretty much any speaker will sound good....but with the right speakers and there are many I am sure, it just sounds killer.... I also play mine thru a Avatar BluesBreaker 2-12 bottom with a Vintage30, and a G12H and the Fang in my 1-12 combo for a 3-12 configuration...I think the sound is nothing short of incredible and can hang with just about any band in this configuration. I guess I am trying to say that there are a lot of "good" speakers to choose from, these are what I like, but by no means the end all.
