A few days ago, my Ghia started making this noise: ghia noise-mp3.mp3 - 0.34MBI changed power tubes, checked connections, tried different outlets (in different houses) and can't think of anything else to try. Any advice will be greatly apprecaited. Cheers Seth .... Looks like that link isn't working. In any event, it sounds like a strat plugged into a dimed 100 watt mashall. Lots of hiss and squeals, but it makes the noise all the time. Even with no guitar plugged in, the noise is immediately audible with the slightest turn of the volum knob.

If the noise is modifiable by the volume knob, then it's coming from your preamp. Did you try changing those tubes?

I didn't change them (because I didn't have any around), but yes, as I turn up the volume, so increases the unplesantness.

take a pencil eraser and tap the preamp tubes... if you hear a lot of noise, they've gone microphonic, which is the sign of a bad pre-amp tube.
Output tubes will make static, scratchy noise, almost like a blown speaker. Preamp tubes will make the noises your describing... and really weird audible noises... like a ham radio out of frequency...

Never mind. Found some old tubes, swapped out V1 and noise was gone. Thanks :-)
