As the question says, but to be a little more specific: If I unplug the reverb tank RCA plugs from the chassis of my MAZ Sr. Reverb Head, will I get the more direct signal that will result in the gain-ier, earlier break-up of a MAZ NR? Also, will it harm the amp if I do that?

Nope. The signal path is still routed to the reverb driver circuit. I don't think it hurts anything to disconnect the pan, but that doesn't make it equal to the NR version.

I'd want the Doc to weigh in on that, but it doesn't seem likely that will produce the same effect as designing the amp without reverb in the first place. In a typical design (and I have no direct knowledge of the Maz circuits) you split the signal in the preamp and send it off to the reverb driver, then mix the reverb signal back in to a later preamp stage or the PI. That splitter and that mixer are still there whether the reverb tank is gone, or even the driver and recovery tubes. You would have to rewire the circuits to get to the same place as the NR model, and then you'd have a non functional knob on the front of your amp.

I have the 1 X 12 Maz Sr with reverb. Is there THAT big if a difference in the w/reverb vs. the NR? I'd be interested to compare the two.

Is it possible to pull tubes 4 and or 5 ala Fender Reverb? Nope. I've tried this there and there is no signal then. Actually it would be V3 and V4.
