I currently own a Maz 38 Senior head with the 2X12 zbest cab. I have on order the Stangray and 2X12 open back with blues. Can anyone tell me what the effects of running the Maz head with the open back cab; runnng the ray head on the z best cab and what the effects of running the zbest and open back cab together? Since I will have these 2 rigs I'll probably experiment some and see what different tones I can get. Just wondering if anyone has fooled around with a similar setup and what they thought.

I know Curt is running the Ray with a Z Best and loves it. Big bottom, BIG BOTTOM! In my 212 Ray combo, I didn't love the Blues, but I'm in the minority. I don't like that much chime. I'm running it into some Tubbies, which is much more to my liking. I don't have a Z Best yet, or I'm sure that's what I'd be using. The Z Best is great with pretty much everything. And I don't know for sure, but I bet running the open back and Best together would equate to a drownded out openback. That's just specualtinon. Congrats on the new Ray and cab!

Yes I find the Zbest has just enough bottom end for me. I love it.

Maz 38 is just a wee bit more than I'd recommend for the 2x12 with Blues - that's a 30 watt cab. I know there are guys doing it, but...

I may experiment with my z best cab on the ray head but will probably not play my maz 38 head through the open back It would probably be ok, but you'd be a lot safer if you had an Airbrake on one click so that the max power is limited. You won't need more than that anyway if my experiences here are accurate. Even with my 30 watt Stingray, I have never been able to play that amp flat out with the Blues - just too doggone loud.
