Greetings,
I've got a potential mod question. I have a MAZ 18 Jr NR head. With its connected AC power cord, I find it somewhat cumbersome to "wrap" the cord (usually sticking it under the handle to secure it) and still have the head be easy to carry. I'd prefer for the AC power cord to be of the detachable type, with a receptacle built into the back panel of the amp chassis. This way I can just throw the AC power cord in my gig bag and streamline the head when in transport. Is this something I can easily have done? Please advise...
Bryan

Amen and +1. I also would love to have a detachable power cable, and am waiting with bated breath to hear whether it can be done.

Here's another one for the detachable cord. My reason though is because my head/cab stays set up on stage at the church and I'd like to be able to take the p-cord with me so that nobody can readily turn on and mess with my amp. There's always some kids hanging around and other bands using our facility.

My Maz JR has a fixed cord and my Z28 has a detachable, bought them within a year of each other. I've seen other Z amps with fixed and detachable as well, any special reason for it?

OK here we go again. I have addressed this issue many times before, but what the heck....... one more time, with a little more feeling ...... ya ya .
First the MAZ and the Z-28 are built on different chassis.
The MAZ was designed as a combo 20 years ago MAZ-38 2x12 Invasion, and a FIXED power cord is best suited to a combo. At the time of the design I couldn't get the pseudo " Class A " , moderate gain , 4 EL-84, reverb HEAD to work right. I eventually did, but you can count on one hand how many other manufactures have any reverb heads on the market, tough design. And the MAZ 18,38 combo's still make up 80 % of the models sales.
So a complete redesign would be needed to utilize the IEC detachable power cord to the MAZ chassis.
All new Z DESIGNS will have the IEC detachable power cord.
Just don't call me when you loose your IEC power cord and want a replacement : 0 ) .
Z.

One thing I've considered for my amps is to go over to www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=914&sku=03132, buy this extension cord, cut off the IEC320 end with about a foot of cable, then wire that into the amp so I can use my standard IEC power cables. But I have never worked up enough angst over the cord being wired in to actually go do it. Hey Lefty, looks like this might be a good question for the FAQ...

Thanks for the reply Doc! The P/S IEC splice looks like a neat idea, but for me if it ain't broken...... Lucky for me both my MazJr/Z28 combo's have a convenient storage box just under the speakers, though it's not exclusive to Z's.

I thought not having a detatchable cord on my SR would be a hassle, but not so. I was just formerly used to a detatchable cord. Consider a clamshell, like benttop said, as an alternative.
I wonder if deltone could pop his fuse in and out if he didn't want people messing with his amp. Just a thought. Perhaps the fuse jack/housing/whatever is not designed to withstand so much use. I'd probably forget and then wonder why my amp stopped working.
benttop, that's an interesting modification suggestion.

I've posted this in other threads that bring up the fixed power cord on the Maz. I got the idea after seeing Roscoe do the same thing on his Maz heads. It's just a pair of inexpensive cleats ($6-$8) you can pick up at a hardware store, or boating supply house. They work great for wrangling in the cord before you slide it into your road case/tuki cover/gig bag. The ones I used were really low rise. They only stick out *maybe* a 1/4" past the head.

Maybe I'm just easily entertained, but to read the problems other forum members are having, then to see how others come along and share how they would fix it, or what works for them (the fuse? the cleats?) is exactly what makes this forum great and provide a great service to it's members. I read how other forums are a lot of "attitude" or negativity, but this is the only forum I've ever signed up for and I feel very blessed to be a part of it. There's a wealth of information here and it can only build up, encourage, and educate the reader. Thanks, Steve
