Hi,
I love both the Ghia & 66. I don't use many effects but always have a little something on. Is it just me or does the 66 sound better with my effects then the Ghia?

Probably because the 66 has an EF86. It's a higher gain tube that is known for accepting effects better.

I have yet to try a 28 but, from expierenced users of the Ghia, 66 & 28..... would you say the 28 takes pedals as well as the 66 because of the EF86 tube?

I want to add another Z to complement my 66. I want something cleaner and smoother versus the strong mids and bark that I get from the 66. I do use pedals and an Air Brake, and am having trouble deciding between a Ghia, Maz Sr and a StangRay. People have said that the Ray takes pedals well due the EF86. What about the Ghia and Maz Sr. What would you recommend? Thanks. John

I have a Route 66 and a Maz Jr. Very different.
I've heard people talk in this forum that a Ghia is a little brother of the Route 66. So you might want to stay away from that. Too much alike.
With not knowing what you'll need it for, I'd go with a Maz Jr. (you won't need the airbrake)

Thanks for you reply. I am looking for a smoother cleaner sound with the ability to scoop the mids a bit. People have said that the Sr. is smoother and a bit more refined than the Jr., which is why I was thinking the Sr. or the StangRay would be the right fit. Volume is not the issue. Will the Jr. get me there, and is it good with pedals compared to the Sr. and the StangRay? I have a friend with a Ghia that I play quite often, and although it is a great sounding amp, I feel as though I can get those sounds with my 66. Maybe my ears aren't that good anymore! I want an EL84 amp, I just can't decide which one. I just want it to do the clean sound a little better. I think I want the reverb vs. the NR. Will the Jr. get me there? Thanks for your help. John
