I need some advice on installing an old tube in my Maz18. I just pulled it from a 1961 H.H. Scott stereo receiver that I happened across at a garage sale last year. I was nosing around in it and discovered a 5AR4 tube labeled "HH Scott Made in the U.S.A." I don't have a tube tester, but the Scott amp works so I assume the tube is good...I just don't know how good. Am I wrong to assume that the only harm I could do is blow a fuse(s) again in my Maz. I'm anxious to try it since I'm needing that tube for my Maz and have not gotten around to ordering another one (trying to scrape together the cash).
FWIW, the other ten tubes are telefunkens (4--ECC83/12AX7; 4--7189; and 2--ECF 82/6U8).
Thanks for your help!

As long as they have the same number of pins (4 or 5) you should be ok. Either it will work, it wont, or it will blow a fuse. FWIW you can get a Sovtek or JJ 5ar4 for 15-20 bucks. They aint Mullards but they'll do in the mean time. Good Luck Harold

Thanks for the affirmation, hdahs143! I tried it through about 15 mins. of playing time and it's working like a charm thus far. I'll put it through the ringer tonight at rehearsal. Couldn't tell a whole lot about a difference in tone here at the house.

Your "Scott" rectifers .... rectifier work or don't work.
Since yours is working you've got a good one and it will tend to be more reliable and have better specs that any new production rectifier.
Happy Playing!

Thanks Myles! It continued to work like a charm during rehearsal. That's good to know about the quality of the old tube. I was a little leary since it's like 45 yrs old, and not knowing how much use it had on it. I really appreciate your feedback, and all the education you've provided on the forum.

As they say here in Southern California which was a part of Mexico for a lot longer than it has been a part of the USA .... No Problem-O
