Hey folks---new forumite here. I posted a similar question in the ask Myles thread and Tele62 was nice enough to point me in the right direction. I'm lookin for a dirty amp to compliment my HR deluxe in a 2 amp setup. I'm goin for the David Grissom type dirty and Tele62 suggested the Maz JR--which certainly seems to be the ticket cause of the master volume(Idont play real loud at home), but would like to be able to do some giggin with it too. The grissom sound clip for the RT66 sounds exactly like what I'm lookin for---but I'd definitely have to airbrake it. Has anybody played both these set-ups,and could you compare them(Maz Jr NR vs Rt66/airbrake). This amp will be set as my dirty amp all the time as I get my cleans from the deluxe. I use pedals and usually play Tele, strat and a PRS 24 std. Thanx !!!!!!

Hey Pauldogx, welcome to the forum. You don't mention what speakers you'll be playing through but I can tell you a Route 66 with the airbrake into the ZBest is still too loud for alot of small clubs (unless you attenuate to the "bedroom" setting). I've never heard a Maz 18 but with the master I think you'd probably get a great dirt tone at a more managable level. Having said that, I haven't tried the airbrake through my new 1-12 cab that I bought to kill some volume, but even through that cab, I played a small club covers gig on the weekend and the tone and volume controls of my Rt 66 didn't get above 11 oclock and therefore it was still clean. With the airbrake I don't like attenuating more than "2". It's not so much a tone thing as it is a "feel" thing and the way it responds during my tunes. My effects don't respond as well either. The best way is to try it out somehow as all kinds of things come into it. The Route 66 is a killer dirt tone though, I absolutely love my amp.

Thanx for the Info--- I appreciate it. Yeah it looks like for my situation a master volume is gonna be a must. Oh--btw probably goin through a 1x12 with a vintage 30 for the time being.

I think the Maz jr is best for what you want.

I have exactly the setup you're pondering. A Route 66 w/attenuator (Weber Mass, not an Airbrake) and a Maz Jr. However, I don't use them in a multi amp setup. The type of gig will determine which one I grab for the night.
They are very different amps. At first, I was sure the Route 66 would be better for you. But after thinking a while, I may change my mind and go with the Maz Jr. The reason behind it is the Maz will sound closer to your clean amp. Too many times I've seen/heard people with multi amp setups, and there is a such a change in tone that it comes off kind of weird. Not as musical as it should be. Somewhat disjointed. This is hard to describe.
The 66 is a better dirty amp, but I think I'll cast my vote for the Maz because I think it will fit your setup.
