Hey all, I have read some threads declaring that the NR version of the Maz 18 sounds different than the reverb version. In what ways is this true? Is it a huge difference in sound, or a minor one? Has anybody here played both, and can comment on this? Thanks alot!

I currently own both and they are fine amps. The real differences are that the NR is a little louder, more open sounding, and less compressed. I own both amps and there is a difference. The NR just has a more punchier attack. If you don't need or use much reverb than get the NR. I use a little Keeley Boss DD-3 delay on mine for some things and don't miss the reverb at all. Remember in most live situations the reveb gets kind of either in the way or lost in the mix.... unles **** Dale is your target tone.

But that reverb compression is cool too, so take your pick. There's not a right or wrong here. You want a reverb amp or not ? Easy!

Thanks for the reply guys......guess I was starting to get a case of "NR envy". Some of the stuff I have read made me feel that I was missing out on a huge difference in tone!

No, there is no huge difference in tone. I could live with either amp. They are just kind of a variation on a theme. You can't go wrong with either one. More open, loud and maybe tweed like in the NR. More compressed, reverb, less loud, but still cool in the other one. Remember Buddy Whittington uses are Maz 38 Reverb Head.... so they can't be bad!!!

I'm not really sure about the differences, but I like my 210R. I actually keep the reverb around 8:00, or barely on. It's still plenty for just about anything I have ever done with it. I've been playing lately with it turned all the way off, and there's still a trace of it present. Just because my tastes are changing, my next Z will probably be a NR model something or other.

I really like my 2X12 with verb and I only open the reverb a bit just to wet the sound a little . Plenty of punch and tone !

Mike reverb circuit is very beautiful. Not splashy like a fender, and much more useable. You wont be dissapointed either way.
