Hey guys my new maz 18 NR Head just come in. With my 2x12 open back cabs there is tons of bass with my strat. I am running the bass control almost off. Do any of you deal with this? This amp is great and I'm sure in time I'll dial it in, but the Z force runs deep in this forum.... thanks for the input.

Congrats on the new Maz 18. I have the same amp with a semi-open 2x12 cab and you're exactly right, no shortage of bass. These tone controls work like no other amp I have owned and it will take some getting used to. Just looking at my settings now, the bass is rolled down to 8 o'clock, just where I begin to hear a little. That would be a good starting point.

Tomorrow I am going to try the amp with my other closed back 2x12 cab and check out the response. I have another maz 18 thats in a 2x10 combo with Z speakers, that one is easier on the bass, so I may need to get a 2x10 cab in the future.

I have a SR with a closed back z-best... These controls are unlike any other amp... Each small tweak actually does something! Yes, start with your bass around 8am, Treble (depending on gtr) between 11am and noon. Cut around 10am (depending on gtr). I keep the mid around noon.
As far as volumes go, you got some choices. I usually plug into the high input, keep the pre-vol around noon and the master volume around 9am.... (for normal playing).
For a more clean tone, plug into the low input, dimm the master vol and use the pre-volume as your master. It has an interesting tone... but I don't really use it at all.

You really don't run the controls on the Z's like other amps.
Set the bass control to 0 and start to roll it up slowly while playing a lightly muted open low "E" string. When you start to hear the control 'color' the sound (introduce more bass than before), stop turning. It may be only 8:00 or 9:00 or 10:00, but that's flat for the amp. Try the same with the other controls too.
My Jr. and Sr. 2x12 combos both have a tight/full bass too. Sound awesome!

Today I tried the maz with my 1x12 Alnico cab and it actually seemed to work much better. Its an open back, but I was able to dial in the bass fairly well. The bass control is still quite low, maybe 8-9 o'clock, but it was balanced and I could work with it well. I'll try a closed back when I can. My open back 2x12's are just to boomy to work well with this amp. Also running into the lower input gave some interesting options with my strat, there was less bass, and I could run the amp up higher. My overall high input setting on the amp was, Master 10 cut 9-10 bass 9 mid 11 treble 11 volume 2-3
Anyway there is no doubt that this amp has ample bass!!! I really like this amp.
