So I'm in a quandary...?! I've had my Ghia head for 2 or 3 months now, which I love, and sounds awesome. but, I'm finding it to not having enough clean headroom. used it on a few gigs, and it wasn't loud enough and sounded real mushy and compressed @ the volume that I needed (and wasn't getting). I've tried different tubes and speakers, but I think it sounds best w/ the tubes what it came with and a G12H that I'm using @ home in a 1x12 cab. I use pedals for my front end gain structure and wondering if perhaps I should have gotten a Maz 18 NR instead? I really dig the Ghia, and it sounds SO great for recording, but I'm really looking for a special vox/fender tone (that's in my head... really warm and chimey, and isn't too gainy, unless i want it to be!) is the Maz 18 NR the one??!! I must admit that one of the sweetest amps I've played through is a Bruno Underground 30 w/ verb, but the volume & weight of that amp head is just really heavy, super loud and way, way, way too expensive!! I'm just sick of keeping an amps volume on b/w 1 & 2 all the time? using a RC booster on the front to give a bit of dirt to my sound and an old Menatone Blue Collar for higher gain stuff. my main amp is a '67 Vibrolux, which is King, but I'm looking for a head for easy transport and a more voxy/british vibe too. any thoughts on this would be muchly appreciated. thanks...

Well, I dig my Maz Jr. (1x12, Reverb) but am still jonesing for a Ghia. If you do get a Maz Jr. you won't regret it; it's an outstanding amp. It can definitely do the vox/fender thing you described -- warm and chimey and not too gainy. I bought mine because I was looking for that very kind of sound. A word of caution: while it's definitely got a bit of vox vibe to it, don't get it expecting it to sound like an AC-30. Same thing goes for the Fender aspects. The Jr. is it's own beast.

All the Zs are their own thing, no clones around here!

I think the Maz Jr is responds better to pedals. By that I mean that all my pedals sound good through my Maz Jr, but not all of them sound as good through the Ghia. If it is more clean headroom you're after, though, you might consider the Maz Sr.
