Help the speaker experts out and tell them what kind of sound you want.

yes that is good advice, thanks billy, the sound of the amp already is everything i want in a guitar amp, but i had an old princeton that had been boogieized years ago, and i put a altec 10 alnico in it and the sound was amazing for the 40 watts, turned all the way up and guitar volume around between 6 and 8, make a long story short,(right), i'm looking for the sound of a higher powered alnico, clean with the harmonic, slightly natural overdriven sound of a classic old fender with the z magic that is so apparently here already, neck pup deep and smooth,2nd position, heavenly strat, clean middle position, and ect ect. alla srv?

I'd imagine a Weber Cali would be just the ticket. What's nice about Weber is you can order with a paper dust cap which would probably cut down on the aluminum dome ping. With all the treble you can get out of your amp you won't need the aluminum dome anyway. I've got four old Altec 417s and a couple of D-120s. I prefer the JBLs over the Altec but really don't care for either much. I always thought I'd get my old blackface Twin Reverb restored some day and load it with the Altecs. I saw Johnny Winter using four Twins so equipped back in the day and it was awsome! I've also got an Altec 10, a couple of Gauss 10s and a couple of JBL K110s. Never really used them except for PA speakers in the rehearsal zone.

The speakers that came with mine were the Z speakers that Mike and Ted Weber worked on together. I've lived a long time, and played everything there is to play except for Tone Tubbies (sounds like a cartoon series, so never took them seriously).
The reproduction of Vox vibed tones, and the sheer projection of these speakers is phenominal. Did yours come with Celestions?

I've lived a long time, and played everything there is to play except for Tone Tubbies (sounds like a cartoon series, so never took them seriously). I swapped out ALL guitar speakers here with Tone Tubbies.....over the past four years, I've bought something like 18 of them in 12" and 10" and put them in Combos and Cabinets. The only amps these speakers ever see are MAZ Juniors and MAZ Seniors and the speakers have PLENTY of high-end.....and are so warm and smooth. I also like them because they are rated for 35 to 40 watts each. Don't rule these out. Mark

Alnico Tone Tubbies are easily my favorite speaker of all time, and I've got or had most everything ever made that I thought would be good. Never tried a ceramic or for even less money, the Cannabis Rex. They might be great also!

I'll give them a fair listen! Just because the name sounds funny doesn't mean the speakers do!

The Dr. loads them with a great celestion speaker, however it is ceramic. Alnicos seem to be favored by many, including Pasley. Webers or tubbys, both getting rave reviews in the Alnico camp. There is an alnico speaker shootout on ted webbers websight that may shed some light, done by guitar player mag. Be prepared to spend much more on an alnico counterpart. Fane speakers are also a fave of torres engineering. Still, ya gotta admit, the stock speaker sounds damn good.
