I've always been the only guitar player in bands since 1980. Even jam sessions, I've been the only guitar player.
Over the weekend I got to hear my Maz Jr 2x12 against two other amps (all three of us playing at the same time). A Fender Deluxe 1x12 and a Line 6 Spider 1x12.
The Maz sounded so pure, clear and tonefull and it's ability to cut through the mix was unbelievable.
The Fender was medium and the Line 6 sounded like arse. However I'm sure the owner of the Line 6 doesn't know what he's doing and it could sound a lot better. Way too much distortion and WAY too much reverb.
Goes to show you, the Fender owner came over after a few songs so check out the Maz, the Line 6 owner didn't have a clue.
I can't tell you how happy I was with the Maz.

I can't name names or mention where this ocurred because I don't want to hurt anybody's feelers. We recently played a special benefit gig with abunch of other bands. One guy brought his Johnson Millenium amp with TWO speaker cabs that he put on each side of the stage. Talk about absolutely ear piercing bad tone! This thing was the worst I maybe ever heard in my life. The guy could also hardly play but I know he's quite well off financially so I guess he probably spent a lot of money on that stinking heap. The funny thing is, I saw Adrian Belew play the same rig a couple of years ago. I didn't care for his tone but it wasn't bad like this. It sounded like he sounds on all of his recordings. I guess it's all in how well a guy can set it up. I think those modeling amps are meant to sound good in the bedroom and most never see a gig anyway.

Had my Maz Jr out for the first time last night at a local watering hole (extra emphasis on hole : . Played the first set with three guitars on deck: one was a seasoned pro with a 1x12 kustom, another with a 1x12 tubeworks and me. I was seriously outgunned in the talent department but nobody had better tone. I was the only one unmiked and at one point was asked to turn down slightly to balance the mix. Lots of clean head room and a thick, rich full sound. I was really surprised by the thin harsh sound the pro was getting. This guy had it all going on, but no tone. Go figure? My brother in law is fiercely in love with his tubeworks, but even he relented and confessed that the maz was the tone master. The second set was done my a OZZY tribute band; their guitar player parked a 100 watt Marshall half stack in front of the Maz and whaled. By the forth song the waitress came over to the table and totally got rude about the noise levels these guys were putting out. Like i had something to do with it! All I brought was a little 18 watter But there's just something about the sound of the Maz. When it kicks in, its just how an amp is supposed to sound; that familiar rich sound that fills a room. Its sound is present and defined, you never have to struggle to focus in on it.
