It seems with an amp that has as much range of good settings, There will be many combinations of knob settings that sound good to different individuals. I was on the "proguitar" site from Germany and they have some interesting MAZ 18 sound bytes and they also post the settings. When I checked out their settings, I noticed that they had the treble maxed and the mids also with the cut set up pretty high also, I tried their settings at home and the tone just about drilled out my eardrums, but I can see that a setting the treble and mids up all the way may record very well. When playing with a band I do know that my favorite settings for practice at home tend to get burried in the mix and I find myself tweaking the highs and mostly the mids and cut to get my tone to cut through the mix. My band will soon be setting up the full PA system and doing sort of "dress rehearsal" for upcoming gigs and I will be faced with the dilemma of setting the MAZ's tone for a mic'ed through the PA tone. If any one has some comments or tips for setting a MAZ for these three scenario's I would like to hear them. Any basic rules that may apply?

I'm very selfish about what my amp sounds like. I set it for me. Nobody else really knows or cares, IMO. I say get your sound happening for yourself, make yourself happy, let the others do what they like with what you give them.

I don't really want you to divulge your settings but more of "what works for you" in the 3 above mentioned scenario's. At home practice and gig settings are always different, at home I tend yo roll off the mids a bit but on a gig the mids are needed to cut through, when the amp is mic'd do you still jack the mids or set it closer to what you do for practice at home?

I set my Maz 38 the same everywhere, just set the master to suit the occasion. Low input, volume on about 2:00, treble 9:00 or less, mid about 2:00 bass, 9:00 or less and cut barely on.

Mine's the same, but I like my treble up, like my mids.

George, I very much agree with Billy in that the sound is very individual. Mess with that little beast, make it work for you. How I set mine, and I have one identical to yours, is not anywhere near where you may like the sound.
I do shake my head at some things, however, and one of them is how much mid boost some guys like to give the 18 Jr. Its' British, Voxy voicing is already quite mid strong, and belaboring the obvious usually doesnt 'bring a point home!

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how I can walk back in start playing and think I want more of..........this and turn whatever knob and that amp will give me a completely new sound to play with. The interaction of controls on the amp are fantastic.
