I have a maz 8 mk2 with the g12h and I like it a lot. I love the versatility but am left wanting for either deep 3 dimensional cleans I had with a previous boogie I had or higher gain Friedman type stuff. I am relatively new to dialing in a maz so I may be missing something but if you were to bring another amp in to compliment the Maz tone what would it be? I have been thinking boogie Lonestar special or mk 525, Fuchs blackjack, or one of the Friedman 20 watters. Thanks!

I pair my Z-Plus with a Carmen Ghia that has a master volume to match output. Check out the Matt’s Music demo on the Dr Z site.

I have a Maz 8 and a Z-Plus. The Maz 8 has the stock G12M65 and the Z-Plus has the Z12 speaker. I've run them in a 2 amp set up several times. I think they sound great together.
As far as dialing in a Maz, try setting everything to 12:00 except Reverb. That's a good starting point. Then adjust with your ears not your eyes. There are many good tone settings to be found in a Z amp.

In terms of speaker how much would changing to the cream back change the tone and do you think that would be more versatile? I do like the bass response of the g12h30 but it is bright.

I have a Maz 8 and a Z-Plus. MAZ 8 + Z-Plus could be a wonderful pairing--sort of "cousins," or at least brothers from another mother. Since the MAZ 8 has been long discontinued, I see the Z-Plus essentially as its modern equivalent. 6V6 tubes, though, vs. the MAZ's EL84's. Would be really cool together.

I think the Creamback might be more versatile. I've never played a Maz 8 with a g12h30, but I have heard it can be bright. I consider the Creamback a very good all around speaker. Not too bright, but with a firm bass response. If you try a new Creamback, make sure you give it a chance to break in. When I first got the amp, I was a little disappointed. It sounded thin and trebley. After playing it everyday for a little over a week, the speaker started sounding great. In fact, I could hear it break in while I was playing. Over the course of about 2 or 3 minutes the highs settled down and the speaker filled out and became a much richer tone. The difference was pretty amazing. The other thing is the output tube. Make sure you have the 6n14n preferably from forum member Perrry R. Here's his Reverb shop: reverb.com/shop/rogue-8
