Just sharing in case someone finds it helpful.
First, I found I really like the g12h30 in the 18. Yes, it's a little spiky and a little boomy, but it sounds good to me and works well with the amp. Decided to try and refine that a little by going with that Scumback h75. Just put it in, played for about an hour with a couple guitars, and I think it sounds great and does exactly what it says it does, meaning it still sounds like an H30, but a little less shrill, and a little less boomy. So far so good, and really couldn't be happier with it.

That’s great! I too had issues with how boomy the low end can be. I might try this out!

Those scumback speakers are really good. I bought a pair of m75’s for my ghia. They sound great! I plugged my z/28-2 combo into that cab and what a difference. I have a tough time dealing with the low end with the creamback but all that goes away with the m75. And the clarity is reallly nice. Really changed the sound in a good way.

IDK how Jim does it, but Scumbacks are always gonna sound great. They just do. Excellent speakers.

I did some more messing around, fwiw.
First, put the second Scumback in a Splawn 2x12 paired with a v30 and it sounded decent, but not over joyed about it so went to a cream back with the v30 and liked that better. Previously had a Celesition 65 with the v30 and that was god aweful.
So onto putting the h75 in z 1x12 cab…
With the ezg, and particularly a 335, sounded great. Winner, done. . With the maz 38, ok, not great. Like the gold with that amp better.
EMS clean side, ok, but not wowed.
Remedy with a strat, winner winner chicken dinner. Just beautiful.
I guess in a nutshell, it always seems to me to come down to some combo of guitar|amp|speaker that makes the magic (or not). But I really like the h75 in general and Scumback will be the first place I look when I want to try something else. I probably sound like a salesman at this point, but I can see the value there. Like never once did I think “this speaker might sound good when it’s broken in”.

Thanks for sharing. Funny you should mention the guitar/amp/speaker relationship. My z/28-2 with the creamback sounds perfect with a vintage ‘54 les Paul jr. wouldn’t change a thing. But when I plug in most other guitars in, it just doesn’t sound great until I swapped speakers. Even still, some guitars sound better than others but nothing an eq pedal can’t fix.
