Hey guys,
Is putting a 5Y3GT in place of the stock 5AR4 in a M12 ok, I know the voltage drop for the 5y3 is more than the AR4. I know some are not interchangeable but can’t remember which ones.
Thanks for Any insight!
J

Definitely okay. Will make your amp sag more, but no issues otherwise.

If you want a little more vintage feel the 5Y3 is great. The 5AR4 for me is the way to go with the M12.

Hey guys, I know some are not interchangeable but can’t remember which ones. It’s the 5U4 you have to watch. It draws more current.

You also have to be careful with the size of the first filter cap. A 5AR4 can handle a larger first cap than a 5Y3. Best to check with Dr Z.

Thanks for Any insight! J The M12 originally was spec'ed with a 5Y3. Some were shipped with a 5AR4 later down the road. So no issue there.
