Hi there, is there any difference in the preamp section between the Maz series MKI vs MKII? My point is that there are more 2nd hand MKI MAZes for sale than MKII out there. I can probably live without the PPI master volume. Apart from that and from the 6N14N tubes in the MKII, are there any other differences? I have seen a few ads for 2013-2015ish MAZes recently. From the outside, they look the same as the MKII, same cosmetics, FX loop, EQ bypass... If the master volume and 6N14N power tubes are the only difference, I might probably go for the MKI. However, if the preamp in the MKII is somewhat tweaked, that may be important and worth paying extra for the MKII.
Thanks!

The voicing is different and the EQ controls have more range in the MK II. The master volume will also have influence on the overall amount of gain in the preamp, as the phase inverter becomes an additional gain stage when the master volume is wired post-phase inverter.

I updated my Mk.I to a Mk.II. The preamp EQ is different.
Mids: Shifted down a little lower in the mid frequency, mid knob is more responsive to changes Lows: About the same Highs: A little smoother Volume: More gain at the end of the volume knob Master: I know you said you can live without the PPI, but it's much more manageable too in controlling your volume.
Over all, it's a little "warmer", but can still get AC30 bright.
I prefer the Mk.II, but I'd honestly be happy with either. If you get a good deal on a Mk.I, you can send off the chassis for the Mk.II update. Not sure what the cost is now, I had mine done when it first came out.
