Is a 2009 a first Generation one ? Is it fantastic ? jamminjohn I don’t know about generations but it’s definitely not a MKII if that’s what you mean. If it has a non-detachable power cord it’s an older iteration than later ones that have the IEC power cord, but the IEC cord doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s a MKII either. But sure, if it’s otherwise healthy and up to snuff you bet it can be fantastic. EDIT: It could be a MKII if it has been sent in and updated but it’ll be so designated on the back.

Obviously Mike knows what's up with all the iterations over the years, but I'm going to straight up guess that the first iteration of the amp is just as great and maybe better than some later iterations. I mean, he doesn't release an amp that he doesn't totally believe in. I have a couple from around that era (EZG and Remedy). Neither have the hard wired AC cable, but one does have an old school convenience AC outlet on it. Both look like original tubes to me, and both sound great and I wouldn't change a thing with either. Basically saying if the price is right, maybe snag it. If something is wrong with it, you at least know you can send it to Z and they'll make it as good as new. Also guessing that if you don't mesh with that old maz18, you probably wouldn't mesh with a new one because they are basically going to be the same DNA. Just a thought.

My first Maz 18 was from about this time. It was great even before I sent it in for the mkii update. Mine was a NR amp, but I've read that there were some earlier Maz's with noisy reverbs. The mkii update solves that issue. Any amp that is 15 years old probably needs a good looking through or new tubes if it's been a while, but early Maz's are great. My Maz 38 is even older than that.

So maybe a noisy reverb. What does the Mark II update cost ? I'm not totally sold on it since I don't really want a head. Z doesn't seem to sell empty combo cabs. The head weighs at least 32 #'s. Almost as much as one of the newer combo's. jamminjohn

I found a 2004 Maz 18 Junior. It's been gone thru by a good tech. It has reverb. It has the effects loop and the newer very efficient Celestion G12-H30. Is fixing the reverb something a good tech could do ? Is there any info on the fix ? thanks, jamminjohn
