Hi Guys. Have any of you wished that you had bought a Maz 38 Sr. MkII ? Headroom wise, are you happy ? Overall loudness ? Why do you like this one more ? Thoughts ? jamminjohn I have a maz 18 mk2. From time to time I think I’d like a 38. The. I play the 18 and realize I’m missing nothing. If this helps….. I’m sure you’ll get many different thoughts and opinions on this. Here is the big question: what are you looking for in an amp? Maybe that’s a good starting point? Zed

The Maz 38 1x12 combo was my 1st Z back in '08. I can't speak about the MKII, but the original was a LOUD 38 watts, and clear and clean as could be with just the 1x12 G12H loaded in it. Doc's amps only improve with their updates, so I see no reason why the MKII would be disappointing. It is also a fantastic pedal platform.

My first Z amp was a Maz 38 1x12 combo. I played in a very loud band, but the 38 was too loud before it hit the spot where it sounded really great. ( I play my amps clean with pedals for dirt.) A couple years later I got a Maz Jr 1x12 combo and while the volume was more agreeable and it was still a great sounding amp, the Jr. really sounded small(er) compared to the Maz Sr. I will say though that the Maz Jr was still plenty loud and clean, even playing in a different very loud band that rarely really had to mic the amps. So, I guess I'm not much help.

I've had Maz 8 and 18 along with the 38. All with the mkii updates. Honestly if you're looking and wondering, there is no reason to not go with the 38. The master volume on the mkii is great. You'll have all the power you ever want and you can turn it down so quiet without a tone loss.
I thought about the new 1/2 power mod, but I really can't see how it will make a useful difference. The Maz 38 sounds and reacts great with the master.
Also, it isn't just headroom. You can set the 38 with the same gain as an 18 and it just has something a little extra. Both are amazing, the 38 is just that much more amazing.

The Maz38 MK 2 in 1×12 Studio Combo: 19 ¼” W, 19 ½” H, 10 ½ ” D; 41 lbs. would work but I can't find a used one. jamminjohn

I understand the newer master volumes work better though.

Seems like the newer model is the way to go.
