Calling Jaguarguy (Mike) to the white courtesy phone... If I'm recalling this right, I always thought that in the early days Dr. Z had specific names for the variants of his new "MAZ" design--such as the Invasion, Studio Lead, and things like that--and I think they signified the format of the combo cab (no. of speakers, etc.). Studio = 1x12, Invasion = 2x12, that kind of thing. (But as with most things in my life, I could be wrong.) There was also a 3x10 of some sort, which I think was Joe Walsh's amp.. can't remember what it was called.

Mark (Basement Enthusiast) you are correct. I have a Studio Lead and it is the same era. I shared some conversation about this somewhere in the 38 thread with Jaguarguy (Mike) a while back. I don't remember exactly what make the Invasion different. My Studio Lead is a 112 combo, but with the skinnier cab. Mine also has the original Lead 80 as the speaker, which after shooting it out against a bunch of other speakers is 100% the right speaker for the amp. If you're looking at an Invasion see if it has a Push-Pull pot for the Treble. I think this is pre-Cut control, but should have a Presence. I love all the Maz's, but these earlier 38's with the special Treble and Presence have something extra special to them. Mine had the mkii upgrade when I got it. It's perfect.

Doc made at least 2 (not including the Z-Master). They were the "Super Z" and the "Bluesman". Here is a pic of my Super Z - serial number is "Joe Walsh". And a pic of my Bluesman And for good measure, here's some pics of the early 2x12s Doc made: SRZ65RC (reverb combo) #001 Maz Invasion 2x12 Jazz (not be confused with the JAZ 20/40)
